Good Morning looking for help to ID. c4 transmission code C4AP=7A105, Under this is A191. Looking to rebuild and fit behind my 289, I don't know if it's off a 6 or a V8 Also how can i confirm. TIA.

I believe those are the casting numbers, there should be a tag attached to the left or right of the trans and you also need to know if its case fill or pan fill.

Thanks Unilec it is a case fill and i will check tab tonight and a photo of the bolt pattern. Cheers,

Check the letter on the servo.
If it is an Z I believe that is from a six cylinder.
-
So i now have the tag details and i will check servo markings as the starter is positioned at 10 o'clock which should be at seven o clock , i'll have to search for another bell housing, if anybody has one let me know, Thanks.

The flex plate and converter are also different on the 6l, not sure about the flywheel.
-
Unilec The torque converter 26 spline input shaft is with the tranny and i checked that it mounts on the flex plate 157 tooth. The bell housing is cat iron if that helps. If it's from a six cylinder is it still usable?

The cast iron bell housings were made in Australia to match the C4 to our Falcons, I believe and could be wrong, that there are different sizes of 157 tooth flex plates, you may need to place it at the back of the engine and see if the starter will engage.

If yours looks like this one then you may have a 6 cylinder tranny.

Hi Jimmy, I dont believe the C4s where any different internally with a 6 or 8, only difference was the servo and obviously bellhousing. If its a 26 spline shaft and from the 70s it should be plenty good enough!

Thanks for the good info it is off a six cylinder so i will need to change out the bell housing but otherwise same same. I'm getting it upgraded for more horsepower so the builder will replace whatever is needed. Cheers.
