Very informative,
With the RRS rack and pinion set did you have any issues with headers.?
I ideally want to fit long tube headers and wonder if they may foul the new steering linkage set up.? ( 289 block)

It didn't start life as a V6, straight 6 or V8.

Aussie your correct about shelby only doing the 'drop' on the early mustangs but if you do your research you will find that  its a common mod on other mustangs and fords to correct the factory issues.  If you check out some of the makers of tubular arm for suspension you will find that they make the arms for early and later models (incl 67) that incorporate relocation of pivot and ball joints.
Thats what I chose for my 70 fastback and 67 mercury cougar .
My 68 is a different setup as it has a big block and to be able to make a set of headers I run RRS struts.

Hey FB, out of interest, did you do the drop on your 68?  The folks in the US tell me that Shelby stopped doing it after 66

Reborn,
. The standard of better coil springs , shocks and sway bar will get you better handling The shelby drop is well worth it on the street, but make sure you put a wedge kit under the top ball joint to prevent coil bind. I have the setup on my 65 and it sharpens up the steering without extra wear on tyres.
The RRS rack and pinion is also worth it , my 68 has one and it takes a lot of the slack from a standard steering box, makes the steering more direct.
If your looking at coil overs , Varishock do one that replaces the standard shock and coil spring, its a coil over with damping adjustments that sits in place of  the standard shock.

Yes, went roller all round.  The rack is an RRS supplied item.  Forgot to mention fitted 2' lowered springs at the front.  In my mind I get the same set up as coil overs without the expense.

Thanks for that,
Did you go roller upper and lower control arms or just your spring perches,?
What was the make of your rack and pinion if you don't mind saying,
Thanks Reborn,

Tech Torque Pre 1973 / Help/advice needed for QLD reg...
Last post by 67Restomod - July 13, 2024, 06:00:37 PM
In 2005 I imported a 67 restomod from US to QLD. It has never been registered in AUS and has been parked in my garage ever since. Finally the time has come to get it on the road. It is LHD. I would like to get a full QLD rego (not club). What do I need to do to get a QLD RWC? I hear that QLD requirements have changed for vehicles this age? As far as seat belts go it still has the original lap belts front and rear. Currently sorting out issues to get it drivable and getting close to that now.
It is not original. Had a new V8 put in before I bought it. It started life as a straight 6
Any RWC mechanics recommended?
Any advice, suggestions, info is welcomed.
Thanks all.

Might want to consider

https://opentrackerracing.com/product-category/suspension/front-suspension/

Car is rack and pinion (non power assist).  I went with roller spring perches/ lower and upper control arms, adjustable strut rods from street or track and koni shocks.

Also fitted a 1" sway bar.  Didn't bother with the Shelby drop as I don't race the car and i have a 67.

Really happy with how responsive the car is now.
