Hi all,
Has anyone fitted or have experience with shifter extensions.
I've got a T5 in my 68 coupe and there's a fair reach to the gearbox stick!
I've looked on Australian eBay and there's nothing.
I have seen one branded "Restmod" sold in the US, it seems very easy to be copied but improved by attaching it to the gearbox.
Cheers Phil.

Hi Phil. I have one of these on the T5 in my '66. The outfit who makes them is in South Australia.

It doesn't move it back as far as the one you posted but does make an appreciable difference, and they're good value for money. The short shift mechanism itself is very well engineered. Get the bronze cup bushing they offer as well to replace the standard T5 nylon one.

Hey Geoff, I had a better look at my car and the restomod one would be far to long, I've got a centre lever handbrake and only need 4-6" longer, something like the cube would be better!
Cheers Phil.

Hey Geoff,
I'm thinking I may make my own version of the restomod extension, it will be along the lines of this one, I'll send photos when finished, ordered some aluminium flat bar, will mill it in this fashion!
-
I'll be very interested to see how it goes.
I should have made clear that I'm not using the actual lever from the Cube product, I just thought it might be a solution to your issue. I'm just using the short shifter under it to which I adapted my Hurst lever. It's perfectly placed for me, I wouldn't want it any further back.

The T5 has a good range of shifter positions in their extension housings normally and we at Mal Wood have done extensions as suggested above for race car apps where the driver sits further rearward for better balance --May we help?
-
Hey Geoff,
Yeah, that's a good stick, looks very comfortable. I've seen the prices of some of those sticks!
Have only taken the boot off at this stage, I'm presuming it's all original, but it has a Hurst boot.
Cheers Phil

Thanks flatchat, got it at the moment but I'll keep you in mind, but I'll check out your web site again to see.
Cheers Phil.

PS flat chat,
I've got the next few days off, I'll know better what I've got, I'll get into it tomorrow, I have lost contact with the previous owner!
Cheers Phil

PSS, flat chat,
On the dyno I've got 700nm, do you think it's sailing close to the wind! Not likely to do any burnouts!
Cheers Phil
-
Can you translate nanometers to kilowatts or horse power pls😎
-
Flatchat, 700 newton metres is 516 foot pounds of torque, aka a shitload, which is stretching the friendship with a T5 the best of which were rated for 330 ft lbs but if you don't side step the clutch with the accelerator on the floor they can live. With G Force or Astro parts in them they can be made good for a lot more torque. I guess if you work for Mal you know all that.

😄 nm = nanometers, Nm= newton metres

Any way you’re correct Geoff
We’d recommend a TKO 600 in this instance - plenty of shifter positions in these
-
Hey, thanks Geoff for explaining it so well!
Cheers Phil

Hey Geoff,
I've finally ordered a Cube short shifter, thanks for the suggestion.
I'm going to manufacture a stick similar to yours and put the extension on hold for the moment!
I've got a nice piece of aluminium for the job!
Cheers Phil.

Looking forward to the photos.

Hey Geoff,
It won't look anywhere as good as your gear stick and your interior and car is beautiful. :omg:
You should be very proud.
:coolpic:
I'm not convinced I won't go ahead with the extension, I think I can make a better job that way.
Maybe I didn't need to buy the short shifter as I could get the short shift pivoting higher on the stick.
For the time I'll use my stick and the kickback bracket supplied with the short shifter!
Cheers Phil
