Hi there
Is it just me, my driving skills; or lack of.., but i find those standard tyres very slippery.
The rubber seems way to hard. Stopping power is awesome; it's just the rear wheels spinning that scares me sometimes.
And what about the traction control? Shouldnt it be the opposite to ABS?
I'm not even talking about handling in the wet.
I've done 21K so far and I'm pretty sure that I will choose different rubber, maybe a bit softer and less lasting when the time comes.
Standard V8; no mods.

1st of all you have over 400 HP under the hood and an engine that makes good torque ,then a six speed auto . Now are you talking traction loss off the line when flooring it or cornering ? . Check that you have the correct tyre pressures also . Next check the tyre for wear right across the tyre . Mine isn't to bad but only 1900 Klms on the clock and I turn the traction control off .

It's got a bit more under the right pedal than a Prado that's for sure

what are the oem tyres?
on my c63, they came with continental, rubbish tyres. i changed over to michelin pilot super sports as soon as i could. buy decent rubber and u will enjoy the car more

Pirelli P Zero 275/40x19 are std on 5.0 mustangs . A few people on here have said they have a problem . Maybe it's just their right foot :grin:

Yep, the Pirelli's are deadly when they are cold! And trust me, it gets very cold here

Thanks for the tip Tony - I get my GT convertible next month and I drive Murrumbateman - Canberra six days per week so I will be cautious for the first few months as they will cover winter and spring.

When I changed to nitrogen the tyre shop had the PSI at 40. Way to hard.
I have it now at 36; even though the sticker at drivers door states 32.
Just wondering why you have your traction control off?

Traction control is for general driving ,not getting off the line quick . Good for mum and dad style driving ,or in slippery conditions ,rain etc . You need the cut the power with your foot not leaving the car to do it for quick take offs . Tyre pressures I run are 34 front and 32 rear with these tyres . Cheap tyres 38 front 36 rear .

Now I'm not happy with my tyres :burnout: when I hit it hard off the line and plenty of axle tramp/ hop . I tried different tyre pressures from 29 up to 38 psi and no good at all ,still spins and axle hops . Looks like I will have to take off very easy and squeeze into it . Won't be good at the drag strip .

Is there anything aftermarket out there you can fit to stop the axle hop?

Stopping axle hop on these new mustangs ,I don't know :shrug: I have watched U tube filming in the USA with these cars on race tracks and it seems a huge problem .... Another problem I had last night was when I had wheel spin off the line in sports mode it shifted into 2 nd gear and died a little before it took off again .

Thanks for that :thumb: maybe we need to buy them in bulk . I think every s550 should have them fitted .

Wow ... that subframe movement is chronic. Doesn't say much for Ford America R & D.
I'd be doing something about it ASAP if I owned an S550.
I see Mustangmotorsport is retailing the Steeda kit.

Yes Peter ,it's not good at all . It's bad enough in my auto but it must be a lot worse in a manual . Looks like I will be ordering that kit next week and if you have this problem guys you must fix it . Every mustang has the problem but it depends on the way you drive ,hard off the line is where the problem happens . Other wise I like the car :thumb: .

Also when doing tyre pressures at say 32 psi that's on a cold tyre . 32 will go up to around 34 psi when the tyre heats up . Eg, 34 cold , drive for a while then check it will be around 36 psi .

+1 My wife got the stang a bit sideways yesterday exiting a car park...and she is by no means a lead foot.
I am 17,000k's into the Pirelli's. but once they need replacing I am looking for something that doesn't need as long to warm up.

Test drove the new Mustang at Brighton Ford. Very rough feeling from the tyres initially, took about 10 minutes to go away, pretty sure they were P Zeros. Still bought one though.....

I recently changed from the Pirelli to continentals, went from the 275/40 to a 305/30. She will still break traction with the continentals 👌but it seems more predictable than the Pirelli
could be a few factors at play like pressures and sidewall height than just brand.
Did 7000kms on the Pirelli and also found them better once warm. I drive my car daily so dont really want to warm them up for every drive....
