Whats the plan for fitting the EFI fuel pump? Low pressure lift pump into a surge tank, or fit an EFI pump into the factory tank somehow?

I see lots of projects through my shop that have just fitted an external high pressure pump & bastardised some form of fuel return line through the tank sender unit ( for those systems that run a fuel return line).

here's a setup that I intend to use for my EFI conversion,

http://www.midnightdsigns.com/james/FuelSystem.htm

it uses a lift pump into a filter / surge tank and then a high pressure pump... I have contacted the guys who supply the filter / surge tank and they are more than happy to ship to Aus.

Here we go thrill seekers,  got my stang back in the shed, run out of money to pay the pros to finish it off.  Theres not a huge amount left.  Finish off the wiring, hook up the Lokar shifter, fit the stereo and digital dash, exhaust system and vert top and a few other things.  Got a few stone chips on the bonnet from the trip home, some fwit decided to overtake me near Moe where they are resealing the highway, sprayed my Patrol and the stang with friggin stones.  Ive got a mate nearby who is an electrical guru whos going to help me with the wiring so that will keep us busy for a while

Well I figured out why she wouldn't run, the fuel pressure regulator is shagged.  My day started early out in the shed, the plan was to whip the top of the inlet manifold off, and remove the fuel pressure reg.  Not usually a hard job, but guess what i friggin did.  I dropped the allen key that I was using into the lower section of the manifold.  The little [Censored A]er disappeared into the darkness of the inside of the engine.  "Oh bugger" I said.  Ive got one of them you-beaut magnet on a long stick things, i thought that would do the job.  Nope the [Censored A]in magnet broke off inside the donk.  At this stage I went back inside and had a coffee.  Back to the shed I removed the dizzy, then the lower manifold, then using my surgical skills removed the offending allen key and magnet.  I was going to remove and polish the manifold at some stage after I get her on the road.  Guess what my latest project is, yep polishing the manifold, while im at it I might replace the fuel rails with some new flash aftermarket ones as well as a new fuel pressure reg.

Hi Tim,

Well done. lots of patience  needed in moments like that.

It's like my, oh sh#t moment when I removed the generator bracket on my Ranchero and I  discovered that the dip stick tube was broken at the timing case. The 15 minute task became many hours to extract the remnants of the dip stick  tube from the timing case.

cheers
jonn

Keep up the good work and patience Tim. You will love the EFI. A few years ago I EFI'd my Mick Webb built 351C in my 81 Bronco. I think I was only one of 3-4 people in aus with a "normal" road going multipoint EFI 351cleveland. I did the whole thing myself utilizing a Wolf ECU and Gas research Carby. I ended up using a 100 series Landcruiser in tank fuel pump...works a treat. I still have that engine and setup on an engine stand...it will go into my 67 eventually.

Looks like I found my cars younger brother, red vert, efi v8.

Mines rhd though and auto.

How are you going to deal with the export brace clearing the intake manifold?

I've got the added problem of not being able to mount to the firewall.

Looking good

Welcome Busiboy, my export brace fitted perfectly as I used adjustable engine mounts,I moved the engine forward about 40 mm so the ac compressor would clear the left shock tower and the added bonus was the export brace clearing. The engine in yours looks like its out of a 94/95 mustang as they had the angled adaptor for the throttle body.

That'd also explain why my manifold sits to the other side.

Ah the joys of being the 3rd (maybe more) person to build the car.

Finally got it running today, got the new fuel
Pressure reg fitted, new leads, plugs and
Dizzy cap, and she fired straight up. Now
I can hook in and get it finished off.

Just got back into it after having a few months off working on the stang.  Fitted a lokar handbrake today, fitted window rubbers and fuzzies, finally finished off the doors and fitted the interior door panels.  I'll keep pluggin away, moneys tight at the moment but ive got most parts I need.  just need to stash some cash away for the exhaust system and convertible top.

I can envisage a nice cruise in the not too distant future Tim.
Good to see this latest work going on. I presume the spare door card spring holders I had, fitted OK. If you need any more I can have another look tomorrow.:thumb:
