Anyone have a Burgeson steering box in their 'Stang ?
« on: October 20, 2009, 10:30:59 am »
Hi All.

Some of you may have noticed the guy selling these at the Vic roundup on sunday :

Burgeson steering box

They looked pretty nice, but pretty expensive buy the time you buy all the bits you need to hook it up.

Anyone have one ? Opinions ? For the price, I guess it might be better just to reco the existing p/steering box.

cheers,
Frank.

I am looking into the same thing Frank. Email gil@borgeson.com for some more info.He quoted me $205 for shipping and an extra couple of hundred for rag jiont and pitman arm. I would like to know if they are any good or not befor i fork out. I would rather an integrated type over the ramsetup.

How much were they on Sunday?
So they are a power steer box, like XA onward, rather than a normal box with power assistance, like original, and early Falcon?

They guy was after $600 for the box. Says they use them in Jeep Cherokees. Not sure if that is a selling point or not. I do believe they are a power steering box - essentially a Saginaw.
Plus another couple of hundred $ or so for the various other bits. You are looking at prob about $900 all up.

So if you get one of these , you dont need the ram anymore ? What do you do with it ?
I might go check them out as they are 5 mins from my place in Hampton.

Fozzy, if they guy is asking $200 shipping plus another $200 for all the accessory bits, then I think you are better off buying it here.

Let me know if you want the guys contact info. There is a website from memory.

Cheers,
Frank.

You fit a manual steer draglink, according to the site.

I have a copy of the fitting instuctions, if you want Frank? It is a Word Doc, but I don't know how to post it on the forum.

I would like the contact details of the guy who has them, if you can too.

If they are a Jeep box, then it is just a saginaw, at least you know it is strong enough to turn heavy wheels/tyres and put up with the rigors of 4x4ing. Over here, when we use HQ-WB boxes in RHD Jeeps, as they are Saginaws too, so I would guess they are pretty generic.

BLKPNY, if you want to email me the word doc, I will host it and put a link here.

I saw that they also do a 16:1 manual box.  Was wondering how they would stack up to the Flaming River boxes, especially given that the Borgeson boxes are a lot cheaper.  Any opinions?

Sounds like this topic has generated some interest. Thanks for the info Frank. I will be going down this path instead of using the original setup, when time and money permits. Its still cheaper than a pwr rack and  so as long as its good it should be worthwhile.

How did you go with installing this box?

I'm looking at purchasing one to fit to my project, but would like some feedback before I hand over lots of $$...
