1970 mach 1 indicators not working.
« on: December 31, 2009, 06:32:34 pm »
Hi, just wondering if anybody can help with this problem. My mach 1 has a problem with the indicators not working but the hazards do. I have replaced the flasher can and checked for power but still don't work. What i have noticed though is when the headlights are on and the lights in the back of the hood scoop are on, when i lift the indicator stalk up or down the the hood scoop light will drop out depending on where the stalk is at. I'm thinking its an earth issue or possibly indicator switch is at fault. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Have you guys seen this on ebay?
http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Ford-Indicator-Switch-Cam-Kit-XR-XT-XW-XY-XA-GT-Mustang_W0QQitemZ110460720059QQcmdZViewItemQQptZAU_Car_Parts_Accessories?hash=item19b7f8d3bb

Seem slike a lot cheaper than the one Frank had to buy. Are they  likely to be any good?

It did not like my link (operator error)  so trying again below. Ebay Item number 110460720059 anyway.

indicator unit

Mine is playing up now not locking into the on position when indicating so will have to remove steering wheel and take a look.

mrelxr,

Ian knows his stuff, top bloke as you now know.
Nice looking Mach 1 you have, is it recent arrival?
Keep you eye on Vic area for various runs apart from MOCV runs as other forum members put up other club runs that are also happening around town.

Cheers, :(

hey caretaker, yes the car is a new arrival, its only been here a month. i bought it off the original owner in california, its been in storage for the past 28 years and was last registered in 1982. its so original that even the smallest things have not been changed on it, still has the original tyres and the spare in the boot has never been used.  the owner gave all the paper work including bill of sale, owner card, every rego renewal and service history and receipts. i am planning on a full concourse resto but for now ill just drive it as is for a bit so i can enjoy it.

Hey mrelxr, got any pics on of the engine bay and car?
I also have a 70 convertible that has been in storage since the early 80's.   Should check for the build sheet under the carpet as well.

hi mo, yeah ive been meaning to get around to that but been busy with fixing other bits and pieces, when i start stripping the car ill find it. as far as pics are concerned i havent taken any because its pretty grubby so until i clean it all up i wont take any yet. as the old saying goes, good from far, far from good. when i saw the car at the guys house it had boxes and crap all over it, stuff leaning on it so there's a fair few dints and scratches but no rust and thats more important. all ive done is give it a wash on the outside and thats it. fixed the lighting issues and now just going over the brakes as the brake fluid looked like diesel oil as it hadnt been changed for 30 years and buggered the master cylinder etc but it starts and drives fine which is good.

Might be a fine time to fit your newly restored rimblow steering wheel then....
