What Headers Are You Using with RRS
« on: January 28, 2010, 06:48:16 am »
Guy's i'm trying to decide what headers to fit to my 67 that will not interfere with the RRS steering. I've tried several sets of off the shelf shorties but they won't fit.  My preference is for shorties but is anyone using a set of Pacemaker 4010"s on their 67 with RRS front end, was there any clearance issues?

Ive got a LHD RRS rack in mine, but I havent bought headers yet.  When i was looking at buying the rack I was told by RRS that most off the shelf mustang headers would fit.  Now it seems that most do not.  Apparently MAC brand headers fit , I haven't seen or heard of these before

Website is hard to navigate, compared to what they can supply.

i have a 64 Falcon with RRS power rack in it and the bottom line is u have to make custom ones.
The RRs rack is designed to fit with standard manifolds.  But before you jump to conclusions there is logic behind this..... sort of.... you couldnt make a rack like that and have it universally accomodate every type of header in all types of Fords.
If you have the time and skill, buy a cheap shitty set from Summit or somewhere else and chop them up, buy a few bends from Liverpool exhaust and either tack weld or even tape up the shape you need . Then go get them made to suit.
I ended up making a work of art of the ones i cut up ( made sure they flowed smoothly, ground down all my welds and wrapped them in heat tape) and they work well, very well.
You will find the passener side (LHS ) fits quite easily only requiring one major cut and extension (yes, it's a Falcon but it's very similar) but the Drivers side is a bit more complex as you have to get round the steering uni and the starter motor.
People love to bag RRS but i have all their gear in my car  and i love it.  Like any Resto mod you have to modify things to suit.  Thats part of building a car and not restoring one....
Hope this helps

Craig

I suppose the other option is to get a set of K code reproduction exhaust manifolds, they look heaps better than the standard ones and should fit

They do claim that the MACs will fit, but left hookers no refernece to converted cars.  When I was researching headers (before sticking with my tri-y's and the lhd rrs) the macs only had average feedback on several us mustang forums, nothing hugely positive.  The rrs site does reference a stack of shorties, but it's the rhd thing you'd need to check on. They are based in sydney, so I'd call them and put the hard word on them (no Hev, not that hard word!).

I have the rrs rack ,don't see why you just don't get a set made , that way you don't have clearance issues at all anywhere in engine bay , mine's a lefty but still got a set made.

I had full length pacemakers with RRS rack and front end in a 66, 289w.  Some time ago now. Not sure if the racks changed from then.
