Don't use fibreglass one
« on: April 15, 2009, 11:40:21 am »
Well looks like I'll finally be getting my 69 fastback this weekend ;2 and as the title suggests I'm wondering if there's a difference between the front spoilers on 69 and 70 mustangs? As this will probably be the first little thing I do to the new baby. Cheers!
Nick

I stand corrected!! there is a difference with the 69/70 spoiler. they are listed as different part numbers on a few sites. check this site out and click on the pictures of the spoilers, there seems to be adifference with the fitting tags but not the actual design.    http://www.cjponyparts.com/
There are two material options: plastic wrinkle texture and fibreglass (not sure if they have a texture)      The front valance that the spoiler attaches to is different on the 69/70.  The 70 came without the side markers due to them being included in the front headlight assembly!

I thought there was a slight difference?
Drake and KAR list different part numbers for 1969 and 1970...  yet the same part number for 1971-73.  So I don't think they are the same part.

Cheers for re-informing! So now that I know that I'll be going for a 69 spoiler, I just have to decide on wrinkle or fibreglass *sigh* :a

I have the plastic type on mine abeit she sits low and it's more forgiving than the fibreglass one.
Be careful when you fit one there are lots on low things that you never noticed before. Also watch out when using towie's or service ramps hoist etc.

Haha, yeah I've had quite a few cars with little to no clearance - just gotta get used to it again as I've become pretty accustomed to the 10 feet of clearance on the ol' lancer!

Just fitted one to my 70, they are a different shape, the 70 also mounts about 100mm from the bottom where the 69 mounts @ the bottom. Mines plastic, looks good, incase of impact, somethings gotta give. I'd post a photo but it's far too hard on this site. Check out cars for sale on american ebay for photo's.
Cheers Vic

From what I recall fibreglass was a poor early repro. Correct front spoiler is textured plastic. '69 Mach was NEVER fitted with them from factory, or slats or rear spoiler. It was optional on '70's I think, but only Boss 429 & 302 cars came with them as standard (maybe optional on '69 B2 cars, not sure)

If you want a front spoiler for your '69, choose a '70 plastic spoiler, accepted by the MOCA in the US I think
Black '69 CJ 4SPD car under construction (425/504)
Black 2002 SVT Cobra - 2003 Terminator Clone (575rwhp/716rwtq - SOLD)
Black ‘63.5 Galaxie 4SPD fastback (just you wait...)

Ok, well ordered a 69 plastic spoiler from mustang auto parts so I guess I'll see how it goes. Glad I opted for plastic though, as I prefer the textured look. Thanks for the advice!
