i know this will be ballpark but.. have a stab at the annual price for insuring:

66' mustang coupe, 23k
19 year old
pretty much daily driver
blue paint in good nick with cream interior
289 c.i. V8
lost my licence for 3 months a year ago for speeding
stored behind locked steel electronic gates in a driveway but no garage roof
will be off my p's in less than a year though

any guesses would be appreciated as i'd kind of like a clue, even just to the nearest grand

cheers lads and ladettes

Not a big chance with LSV or Shannons I would have thought.
If they do look at it possibly $2000+, but this is a guess only.

hey mate i'm in the same boat! 19, green P's and a 65 coupe.

I had a mate of mine who heads up the insurance part of a big financial company look into it for me and their was no1 that would look at full comprehensive for me OZ wide!

best option is to put it in ur dad's name and u as the elected driver, 80/20 split. It is a risk doing it that way as they can void if they find you drive it more than your insured too! easiest way is to stay friends with your neighbours so that if they ask questions they get the right answers :(

just car's would be the cheapest by far!

mayb wen i'm 25 they might give me a look! but for now 3rd party will hav to do!

i would have estimated $4k.

I had a an ED XR6 when I was 21 so I know the pain insurance is for under 30's.  I was 'only' paying $2100 p.a. 10 years ago.  Insurance companies seem to have got progressively steered away from the younger driver market and as such provide high premiums to cover their risk and also drive the customers away until they are older, problem is they all do that now.  They dont seem to cater for people who are younger and actually care about the car they drive and drive them carefully.

Just cars have always catered for the modified / grey import market and this may be worth a try.

Depending on your financial situation, it may be cheaper to buy a junker insured with 3rd party only to drive day to day and try and insure the pony for limited / weekend use.   Its a sad state of affairs but I wouldnt consider anything exotic / modified under 30 these days.  Insurance is just too pricey.

Rick,

Bad news sorry, here is what my friend at Just Cars said :

"I cant really help much with the pricing, we use a computer program and its all automatically calculated, and unfortunately just cars doesnt insure anything over 30 years old. His only option would be to try shannons, but again that wouldnt help him much because they dont insure drivers under 25. Insurance companies will insure p platers on any car unless it has an age limit put in place, so we are able to insure p platers with turbos and v8s"

Cheers,
Frank.

a broker might be able to organise limited use cover at a reasonable price.
Club rego is another option if you get stuck, that way the insurer only would provide cover on orgnaised runs and for theft or fire.  This way you could save on rego, insurance and still get to run it on occasion.

Insurance under a parent and you as a nominated driver may be the way to go.

Hope you find someone to cover you.

yeah just cars only brought that 30 year rule in within the last couple of months, i had to renew a old quote with them for it to go through the system.

I just finished some work for my broker mate and got him to call one of his contacts in NRMA, even with a friend high up in that company we couldn't push it through.

Under you parents name would be the only option otha than club rego.

Buy and Dynacorn shell or turnkey car !

Aren't they considered to be a 'new' car ?

Rick.

My mate at Just cars email me to say :

"Technically we could cover the mustang, but only for third party. Tell him to give just car a call."

So see how you go.

Cheers,
Frank.

LSV doesn't insure under 25's though and im 19 so i couldn't have it under my own name/couldnt start to get my own driving record. is there anyone else i could call though that might have a competitive price and no anti-under-25's rule? just in the interest of shopping around?
