I HAVE JUST INSTALLED DISCS ON THE FRONT OF MY 66. I HAVE KEPT THE HUB AND DRUM ASSEMBLIES WHICH ARE IN GOOD NICK AND THE WHEEL CYLINDERS ARE NEW. I AM IN TULLAMARINE IF ANYONE IS LOOKING FOR SOME.
I dont suffer from insanity, I enjoy every minute of it.

I USED HUB/DISC ASSEMBLIES OFF AN XR V 8, PERFECT FIT EXCEPT HAD TO CHANGE THE OUTER TIE RODS. PUT A KIT THROUGH THE CALIPERS, REPACKED THE BEARINGS, THE DISCS THEM SELVES WERE A 1. ALSO USED A REMOTE VAC BRAKE BOOSTER OFF AN XR. HAD TO PUT SMALLER REAR WHEEEL CYLINDERS ON TO STOP LOCK UP ON REAR WHEELS. ALL WORKS GOOD AND STOPS REALLY WELL. SHOP AROUND EARLY FORD WRECKERS FOR THE PARTS. I CAN PUT YOU ONTO A GOOD MECHANIC IN AIRPORT WEST IF YOU DONT WANT TO DO THE CHANGE OVER YOURSELF.

If your car is  LHD it will have steering problems if you use RHD parts in the front end.

James.

MINE IS A RHD SO IT ALL WORKED OUT OK, BUT I CAN IMAGINE THERE WOULD BE PROBLEMS IF THE CAR WAS LHD.

Bump steer.
It is not recommended.
Go down the Mustangs of Melbourne caliper bracket route.
see below, I have attached a previous post outlining what you need.
********************
Job done in a couple of hours!!!
Thanks to all for advice.

Just for others looking to do the same, here is a recap of parts to use
if you want to do a bits and peices (or cheap way) of converting a 65-6
from front drums to disc.

*Mustangs of Melbourne caliper brackets.
*XW rotors (especially if running rally style wheels)
*XW wheel bearings/oil seal.
*VK/L Commodore calipers with their hose and bolts as it bolts straight up...

Easy job, you just need to buy 6 grade 6 bolts and nuts to bolt up the Brackets to your stub axles.

I had some trouble with the suggested Gemini Booster/XB Master Cylinder combo, so I have decided to buy the Booster/Master combo the Mustang
parts people sell new, just easier...:(

Hi Lea,
Can you please tell me the size of wheel cylinders you used. I have the same front brakes as you and suffer the rear lock up problem you talk about. I was going to put an adjustable proportioning valve in.  Has the lock up completely gone away?
Thanks

I used XR rear w/cylinders, fixed it straight away. Had them refurbished of course first. They are as scarce as hens teeth. If you cant find two then any smaller cylinders than the Mustang ones should do if you can fit them. I was told a proportioning valve will do the trick but its a lot of mucking around getting the right pressure, bleeding and rebleeding etc. Good luck on your mission.
