Anyone heard of this trick ... ?
« on: August 27, 2008, 04:04:19 pm »
.. was working from home today and noticed Monster Garage was on 10 HD so watched it.

They were (believe it or not) turning a model T Bucket hot rod into a snow mobile and had to fix a leak in the radiator.

They reckon a quick fix is to drop a raw egg into the radiator and when it hard boils it will plug any little hole(s).

Anyone ever heard of this or heard of it actually working ?
Seems unlikely to work to me.

Cheers,
Frank.

Done that one before!
Used pepper in our radiator to plug a leak, in Kalgoorlie, got us back to Perth!
Egg works too, Mythbusters tried it recently!

Well Ive heard of some folk doing some darned things, I heard of pepper, But not eggs! Do you seperate the yoke from the white? If I had to Id put the white in first, then warm the engine to a simmer, Place the yoke in a mixing dish and beat till light and mix with half a teaspoon of rosemary, Run the engine for a further ten min not letting it go over 80 deg C, Finaly slice 1 whole tomato and place these in a peice of foil and put a table spoon of parmisen cheese and a whole garlic clove finely chopped, wrap these up and place them under the carbie ontop if the inlet manifold and leave them there for about 15 min at 80 deg C.
Take 2 slices of rineless bacon and remove all the fat, also place these in foil and put then directly on top of the extractors and run the engine at 2800 for 10 min.
Get 2 slices of whole grain bread and roll then up like a scroll and place these into the exhast tips to toast.
Drain the radiator water and strain throgh a sive and place the tomatoes on a plate under the eggs and bacon......now lightly salt and pepper add a garnish of parsley and ............WALLAA.........Enjoy, Maybe we need a Post with recipies cooked on your donk!

I also have heard of the pepper trick. Got me out of trouble a few years back in my '64 Studebaker Cruiser.

I do a bit of club rallying and one of the essentials in the toolbox is a container of pepper. The stuff is magic for repairing any radiator leaks. Have also done the egg thing however you need to separate the yolk and only add the white. Would not suggest any of these methods on a mussy. Good fix for a Commode or any Rice burner though. :w
Cheers, Baz.

Have heard of the folks who wrap a roast in foil , add some herbs, etc. stick it in their engine bay and drive down the country for 2 hours or so. Then sit down and have a nice sunday roast.

Must try it one day.

Cheers,
Frank.
