Can I sugget that the club place greater emphasis of encouraging folks to partisipate in this forum and use the internet as a tool.
I personally felt embaressed ablut a few of things, firstly at the number of NSW folks whom attended:-
secondly the only 2 cars whom had the urge.........(call it balls) to put the cars in the modified class were from NSW.
Thirdly and probibly the most critical was the concours Cars being held in a compound till the concours judging was completed was in my opinion an oversight that they should have been on display for all to see in there glory then removed from display for judging then returned to display, the way it ended up was the best car of the show was left in the compound till last and should have been on show for all to see.

I hope the members can understand, as one Peter Hewitson was heard to say, "we are the caretakers"

Ballarat 2009 was my first Nats so wasn't sure what to expect ........really just went to have a look to see how it was all to go down. I was intending to enter the original class next year & thought it would be good to go & have a look. I cant judge it on past events but must say I tend to agree with Hev about the Concourse cars. If I were a paying patron going along to see the best Australia had to offer Mustang wise I would have wanted to see those concours cars up close & personal.....I realise that concourse judging is very time consuming & that yes those cars did end up on the oval but mostly only late in the afternoon.......Most of the public would probably have missed out on seeing the Best of the Best in the flesh......( maybe some thought will be given to making the cars still waiting to be judged are more visible to all of us to see ) in the future.
I was also surprised by the amount of cars just driving in & out all day long.........Public liability at car shows nowadays usually prohibits such movement of vehicles through crowds of people........I dont want to bash it I thought it was great weekend , Me personally , I had a ball & cant wait till 2010........Original class for me in 2010:p.......Dale

I don't know what the solution is but maybe the concours cars could be judged on a Saturday (I wouldn't think they would be involved in a bbq trip - then, maybe the judges might). They could then be put on display ALL day.

As I recall, at the Nationals that were held in Canberra, the concours cars were not 'locked' up at the beginning.  We had just the judging area with the ramps fenced in. Perhaps one car on the ramp with another waiting at the approaches. I know they prefer to have the judges away from the entrants etc so that they can get on with their work. I recall back in 1994 at Penrith (my first Nationals (without a car)) there were entrants making comments to the judges.

Also, when I was leaving in the latter part of the afternoon I was speaking to one of the concourse judges who commented that he was having a look at the rest of the cars (Display Cars ). I said, "well you haven't got many to look at because most of them have left".

I think traditionally Friday was the day you travelled to the event, Saturday (for the concours cars) was cleaning day and Sunday judging day, Monday travellling home day.

I think when you look around at the days we were there you could see there were different groups.  The absolute car shiners (the all dayers - more likely the concours cars and perhaps some Display Class cars), the party goers and car shiners (quick wash, rub down and grab a beer - ahh that sounds good) and then party goers (wash the car, have a beer and socialise). We are all different.  However, I think you have to enjoy the whole thing with a happy mix of preparing the cars and socialising. I love catching up with people we have met over the years. Just love it.

Yes Reg.............We should remember it is not just about the car show, it is a full weekend of meeting & greeting & socialising etc. I made some great mates & am really looking forward to catching up again in Adelaide 2010. At my hotel we families from Qld, NSW, ACT, VIC, TASSIE, myself from SA & even folks from WA, so it was wonderfull........As you say concourse cars wouldn't have been driven on the saturday anyways so posssibly judging may have been able to be done earlier & then MOCA could show the viewing public their winners............Regards

All suggestions taken onboard. Although I don't know what the judging setup for next year will be, I can see both sides of the equation. The concours guys don't want people too close, but the punters come to see the best.  Dunno what the answer is????????? Next year I'll be a tourist, so look for me in the " quick wash and a beer camp".  Hooroo, Pete
