69 exterior door handle removal
« on: April 17, 2023, 08:05:54 pm »
I recently decided to change my exterior door handles on my 69. The problem I am having is trying to get access to the nut on the inside of the door which secures the thinner end of the door handle. I cannot access it because of the thick shaft that runs down in front of it for the window mechanism. The nut is in a indented section of the door so I can't get to it with a spanner and there is no room for a socket because of that shaft. Has anyone changed their exterior door handles on their 69 and can advise on how they got that nut off and on again. Any advice will be welcomed.
Mark

Thanks Geoff I did have a look on youtube hoping to find a video but the closest I came was the CJ Pony Parts video for changing the exterior door handles. He did it on a 68 and seemed to be able to get to the nut in question a lot easier than on a 69. I think I might just need to find the right tool that will get into that spot.

Don't know if this will help.

Hi Peter, apologies for not replying sooner but just got back from OS holiday. I haven't got it off as yet as I decided to give it another go after getting some opinions and advice from others that may have done it

Thanks Jade, if I do that what else comes out with it (ie the whole window mechanism etc) and is it easy to put back in after removal
