mustang gt 2017 ignition problems
« on: March 26, 2023, 07:34:54 pm »
Hi there,

I have an issue with my mustang gt 2017 were the at times my engine wont crank over. It's very unusual as it won't happen straight away but after a short trip ill turn it off, then turn it back on and it won't crank over. I have taken it to multiple mechanics and telling me they are unable to find the issue. I was hoping to try my luck out here. I have attached a video.
Any feed back would be much appreciated.

It sounds like an issue with your neutral safety switch. Forgot to ask if it's manual or auto?
 cannot see any video.

I’d imagine by now the original battery has been replaced?
If not it’s time.

Yes, the battery has been replaced along with new terminals.
Battery has been checked over by a reliable source. Issue still occurs.

Have a look high up on the clutch pedal and see if the is a switch, may prevent you starting the car in gear.

Hi.
Yes I have looked at the clutch switch and it seems fine. The problem seems to occur when the vehicle has warmed up. So its a bit of a funny one. I can start it ten times out of ten and its fine. I'll go for a drive, then turned it off , then try turning it on again and it may or may not crank over.

Hi Math,
Ive got a 2017 gt but thankfully havent got the same issue.  Yours sounds like your starter or cable to the starter is getting hot and wont take the charge / turn the engine.
Have you recently put a custom set of headers on ?
My early mustang had a set of headers and same as your symptom,  would start the engine cold, but not when it was warmed up. Fix was to put a heat insulator blanket over the starter, has been good since.
Not sure if this helps you , but good luck in getting a fix.
Regards
Mark

Hi Mark.
Thanks for that, it does make sense why that issue would occur. I will look into this further.
Thank you!
