All

I've just fitted a Saginaw power steer pump to my car, and the supplied pulley only has a 3/8" groove. The OEM pulleys use a 1/2" belt for the power steer, and I am not buying new pulleys. (I spent a lot of time and money getting the correct ones so am over it).

The only research I have found is an OEM from a 69 Oldsmobile Cutlass with a 442. Not a popular car here in Sydney.

Lots of pulleys out there after market, but a lot of them don't state the belt width. Borgeson offer a pulley but only a 7/16" groove.

Can anyone help a brother out by advising what pulley fits the late Saginaw press-on shaft and has a 1/2" groove?

Hey Stephen.
I’ve got a press on aluminium power steering pulley.
I’ll measure it at let you know the dimensions. 17mm push on, 5” diameter and only 0.427” vee section, 0.32 offset.
But would you be able to machine yours to suit.
If you have enough meat and you want send it to me and I’ll do it for free.
Just pay postage. phillipdrury@icloud.com
Cheers Phil.
Are you sure your belt is too big for the pulley vee section?
Cheers Phil.
Hey Stephen,
If your pulley does measure only 10mm the pulley is a SPZ size not SPA (A section).
Cheers Phil.

If you've never buggered anything you've never done anything!
But if you've buggered a lot maybe you're not very good at it!

Two for one is good but four for two is better!

Thanks. I think I have found a couple of options. One from the US which just what I need, possibly one from a XF Falcon but waiting on the belt size to be confirmed.

Definitely a 1/2" belt. Factory steer car so they use the thicker section belt on the pump.

Hey Stephen,
Sounds good, offer still stands if you’d like me to machine yours!
If you’re still interested send me a photo of yours, I’ll see if it has enough meat in it to machine.
Cheers phil.

OK, I am still on the hunt for a correct pulley.
My parts manual tells me that nearly every 1970 V8 Mustang with power steer had a 1/2" wide belt. Surely someone has come across this before?

XF falcon had a 1/2"  belt.

Stephen I run a saginaw from an XF  on our 66, 1/2"belt mate :thumb:

Thanks folks. I need to read my own post, completely forgot about the Falcon one.
@micks66 is the offset the same as the original one? I have spent a bit of effort getting the sh%$thouse Borgeson bracket to line up correctly so would like to know what is needed to make it fit.
Being a '70, the offset is different to the early cars so I can probably expect to shave a few mm off the mount spacers.
