York compressor replacement
« on: December 24, 2022, 07:00:06 pm »
Hey guys,
I'm looking to replace my 1964 York A/C compressor because it is leaking badly (seal/s is/are gone). I don't want to go down the path of changing the entire A/C system with a Sanden compressor + hoses, even though it would probably be the better option.
I'm looking for a new York-style compressor and I contacted a couple of companies that were selling it, but they don't sell it anymore.
I noticed that OEX makes something very similar (https://www.repco.com.au/en/parts-service/climate-control/compressors/oex-air-conditioning-compressor-direct-mount-york-210-style-cxy0001/p/A5361399), just wondering if someone of you has any experience with those.
If not, do you know Australian shops that are selling genuine York compressor?

Also I'm open to rebuild it, I'm asking around, but it seems very difficult to find someone in Perth.

Thanks and Merry Xmas!!!

 :santa:

The oex one looks like the go to me.
You will need to change the hose ends at the compressor though as the genuine york uses roto-lok fittings.

Fred, if you are in Perth and end up at a dead end, I have a brand new sanden compressor if you need. I have it spare as went down the path of serpentine belt so message me if you need?

Why don’t you rebuild it?
I did a gm Frigidaire unit and was very successful.

To be honest my preference would be to buy a new compressor, rebuild the faulty one and keep it as spare.

I contacted an OEX reseller and they told me that these York-style compressors don't fit in a 1964 Mustang... It sounds difficult to believe, and I will investigate further

Hey friends in Brisbane,
do you know these guys?
https://pjevans.com.au/contact-us/

they sell a York compressor, just trying to understand if it is a reliable supplier.

Honesty unless you want an original looking engine bay I would dump the York.
I wish I did they vibrate and are inefficient.
The next time the York leaks in the bin it goes

I would love to keep an original looking engine bay, and I'm aware York compressor are not efficient. But I have to say that I don't use A/C that much, only in those very hot days (also in my modern car).

I'm just very picky and I like to have these things in working conditions.

So very worst-case scenario I will keep the compressor I have and don't use A/C.

I just bought this compressor from OEX: https://www.repco.com.au/en/parts-service/climate-control/compressors/oex-air-conditioning-compressor-direct-mount-york-210-style-cxy0001/p/A5361399

I still need to check if it fits in my car, worst case scenario I can always return it within 30 days.

The OEX compressor fits perfectly on the original bracket and it seems working fine, no need to change the fittings.

You need to pull the front valance.
Don’t leave new dryer open to the air too long even better vac it down immediately
