Anyone Used A transmission Shift Kit
« on: June 21, 2022, 02:35:07 pm »
Hi All, I have a 66 GT Coupe. I have read a few threads about using a transmission shift kit to give it a bit more aggressive shift changes. Anyone tried it.

I have a std C4 tranny.. The motor has Edelbrock RPM intake, QFT 450 slayer carby and MSD. Also has a 2 1/2 SS exhaust.

Cheers Glenn, I've had a look and there only seems to be the TRG-45-01 shift kit. Is that the one ? I read a post that said the best idea for a 66 was "66 C4s swap in a 67 valve body and use the 47-2". Seems a bit excessive. Where's the best place to order the kits from. Looks like Summit Racing...

+1 for the transgo stage 2 kit. I changed my 66 valve body for a later 68 one also.

Here's the response form TransGo Product Support if anyone's interested.

Hi Lee,

Stage 1, stage 2 etc… are just marketing names created by people that like to sell stuff to those that don’t know much about transmissions. It has no actual technical value or meaning at all.

For your application, assuming the transmssion is original with a 1966 valve body we have either the SK 4® https://transgo.com/product-details/sk-4/ for just mild shift improvements, or the full blown 45-1 Reprogramming Kit™ https://transgo.com/product-details/45-01/ for performance applications.

Lastly, before buying a kit, be sure to first identify your valve body by looking this info: https://transgo.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/C4ID.pdf as many of those older units have been rebuilt many times before and back in the days guys would mix and match parts all the time to make them work.
