Tesla with curb rash!
« on: May 28, 2022, 03:42:35 pm »
Hey All,
I went to The Falcon Run to Mount Panorama today.
Lots of nice cars!
But on the way home I pulled up next to a nice Tesla SUV at the lights.
You should have seen the gravel rash on both left hand wheels.
Seems like you don’t have to be very a good driver to own a Tesla or it’s self parking is not so good.
Hahaha. I thought I had to share this with someone!
Cheers Phil.

If you've never buggered anything you've never done anything!
But if you've buggered a lot maybe you're not very good at it!

Two for one is good but four for two is better!

Hey Phil, my “best man” is buying a Tesla. He wants to wrap it in orange. 🤮 I can tell you, he is the worst driver 😡

So you may be correct.

Hey Colin,

Tell your mate, yuck

The Tesla driver did have his wife in the car as well, she was probably the culprit!
My wife reckons she’s a good driver?
I’ll have all the female forum members up me!

I’m an ex coal miner, everyone is up the burning of coal.
But if you look at the discovery of coal it was a godsend at the time.
Before coal was discovered and used to heat homes trees were decimated and there was no replanting.
Landscapes were bare of trees and of course solar and wind power was hundreds of years off.
It also started the Industrial revolution, power, lights and heating in homes.
People should thankful coal for got the world over that period.

Yes, one day we’ll all be driving EV or Alternate energy cars and energy will come from elsewhere.
I’ve got nothing against Teslas, I’d also laugh if it was a Porsche.

Aren’t we lucky we went through the gas guzzling age’s, filling up your petrol car with diesel, car boiling going up hills, fuel freezing, dirty carburettor jets, dirty spark plugs etc. hey, I forgot one no brakes at the bottom of a hill!

My car likes a drink, the other day my friend and I refuelled in Bathurst and travelled to the Vineyard roundup.
When we refuelled at Vineyard on the way home my car took 32 litres and his 289 took 17 litres.
Think of all the Petroleum workers I’m keeping employed.
Now all the greenie’s on the forum will be up me.

Are the memories.
Cheers Phil

My neighbor is getting a Tesla soon. He is so smug about saving the planet driving a zero emission car until I reminded him that when he finished driving his EV he plugs it in and 100km west of Brisbane a coal fire power station is charging his car. He just shifted the problem somewhere else. No to mention the hazard chemicals it takes to produce his car and then the huge problem of disposing of the used batteries every 100,000kms.
No that green really be ignorance is bliss right.
He, with the most toys wins.

Unless you live in Iceland or Norway, where electricity comes from renewables, an electric car in Australia and many other countries is not really green. I have read somewhere that you can start saying you are driving a “green car” after few thousands km, assuming you are using solar panels to recharge it, because you need to offset all carbon emissions used to make the car.
Otherwise you are shifting the problem somewhere else, as you said.

Hey Fred,
I watch the AMEO web site daily about where energy is coming from.
It is very interesting, very rarely does renewable energy, wind, solar and the battery produce more than 20% in the daylight hours, solar is very disappointing at 5% per year.

The push to add Solar panels to existing houses has slowed so Solar and wind farms will need to grow Massively, disturbing thousands!

I have a white Surfmist roof (absolutely White) and I need to pressure clean wash it every year to keep it absolutely White (clean) You can not believe how dirty they get, bird shit, dust etc, plus if you have Blue / Silver sarking containing bitumen the bitumen in my opinion leaches out around the ridge capping and onto the roof and Solar panels making them tacky attracting dirt? If you have a dark roof you don’t notice the dirt (as much)!

So Nuclear is the only answer! (Large power output from small Land area)

Listening to the Tech Guy on 2GB he mentioned the average household, parents with two cars and two teenage children with two cars. In the country average house may have two garages, then two cars parked in front of the garages with long leads to the outside cars charging at night, only green energy at night is from Wind / Hydro.
Then cars in cities without garages with extension leads running out to there parking space on the road.
If you work afternoon or night shift the car sits out not charging at works car park or on the street, get home and charge your car at peak rate, unless you only have one car, the wife goes shopping and sometime the car runs out of power.

https://aemo.com.au/energy-systems/electricity/national-electricity-market-nem/data-nem/data-dashboard-nem

When China, India and Asia do something about climate change then we should follow!
How much climate change do these countries contribute 60-70%?
How many of these will be driving their EV’s. 1, 5, 10%?
You won’t hear the Australian greenies demonstrate against them!
They should go over there and demonstrate (and probably go missing)!

It will happen, but not in my lifetime!

Anyhow, Cheers Phil.

Nuclear might be the answer, the only problem is that it takes time to build a nuclear plant (years!). So most probably when the plant is ready the plant itself is almost outdated...

regarding carbon emissions, we need to differentiate between countries and per capita. As a country Australia is bad but not that bad. Per capita Australia is one of the worst, 2 times more than China and 8-9 times more than India.
So we should probably start looking in our country first and fix the problems here.

They keep talking about filling cities with electric cars, but why not investing heavily in (green or almost green) public transport or proper shared transport? For a 25/30min drive in Perth I might spend $80 for a taxi or $65 for uber (if they show up)... obviously most of the time I use my car and sometimes buses/trains, but I would use my car way less if I have a cheaper shared transport or a better public transport.

So with less cars on the road, fuel will be cheaper, and we would be able to use our classic cars for pleasure more often

Hey Fred,
I’m sorry but really don’t agree!
Obviously there is a big difference between City any Country ideals!
Cheers Phil.

it's ok having different opinions, please where exactly you don't agree? I'm interested to see different points of view.
