Tyres
« on: April 07, 2022, 10:29:03 pm »
Hi all, I have a 1965 Mustang Coupe 289. Have had it for 25years. I Just enjoying Cruising when i can.
I'm buying Convo pros 15x4-2 5/16 BS , But my concern is the front tyres size...  The Tyres will be Hoosier , 25x7.50x15 or 24x7.50x15. but I don't know which size to get that will fit & not rub the Fenders . My Fenders are already been lipped up. I'm wanting to know if anyone has convo pros front tyres sizes as Hoosier I'm wanting .Thanks for your time .

Hey Fred, welcome to the forum.
What type of look are you looking for.
IMO - Convo Pros and Hoosiers are not a cruiser look, that’s a drag or restomod look.
Post a photo of the car so we can give you opinions.
Plus I couldn’t find the particular hoosier tyres you mention.
Plus 7” rims and tyres to suit on a 65 are maximum width, otherwise you will have trouble.
If you’re looking at improving your brakes you’ll need bigger than 15” wheels.
And you need to think of resale value for whatever you do.
Cheers Phil.

But if you've buggered a lot maybe you're not very good at it!

Hi Fred,

I suggest you get in contact with Robbie at Tuckett's Tyrepower in Hastings (03) 5979 3844 as he's extremely knowledgeable & been working on Mustang's for 25+ years.  In addition, he's MOCA Vic member and has helped me out with tyres on our mustangs and everyday cars.

Hi Phil

He's putting the 7.5" Hoosier tyres on the 4" Convo Pro rims.

Looking at https://www.summitracing.com/parts/hoo-19040, my concern is says the minimum rim width is 5"

That it's the tyre in the middle of the rim range, so they will sit nicely on the rim.

Just compare the backspace (or offset) with the stock rims to sit if they've move the wheels inside or outside the stock position within the guard

Hey Fred,
You confused me when you said cruising!
Once again IMO.
So you’re going for the drag look with a 289 that wont steer because of the bulging flexing 15” 7.5 section tyre with 5.3” tread width on a skinny rim.
I’ve seen the look before, I don’t like it, but I don’t have to.
Brakes can’t be that big if you’ve only got 15” rims.
Once again the resale just got cut in quarters.
Sorry to disagree!
Cheers Phil.

Hey Phil, With the bulging flexing I'm not happy. And talking with Dwayne and now i see the look its not what I'm really looking for .
its all good ,that's your opinion. I will go back to the drawing board and see what look I'm going for now. and i will let your all know where I'm at. Cheers Fred.
