66 RHD conversion with XB parts
« on: February 23, 2022, 08:59:17 pm »
Hi Guys
Looking at a buying another 66, its  I6, that has had a RHD conversion a few years ago and had engineer sign off, the steering box was XB. I believe jus about everything else inc drag link was also XB . My question is firstly has anyone else done a conversion like this and any foreseeable issues with a 8 conversion down the track? Any thoughts welcome
Cheers

My coupe has an XB power steering box with a cut and shut drag link.
The drag link isn’t made to the exact length required to get the steering angles correct so there is
incorrect steering angle happening as you start apply cornering.
It’s adequate but not great.

My 64 has XB spindles and discs with (I think) 60's Falcon steering gear that was fitted in the 70's and suffers from bad bump steer.

The spindle/steering arm seems all wrong.

If the conversion is set up correctly by someone who knows what they are doing I don't see why it can't be made to work.

I am currently trying to find a solution.  Main contender is a new 65 disc brake spindle and modern brake kit.

A fully adjustable rack like the Retro Rack is also a contender but very expensive.
