Fastback find Vietnam
« on: January 27, 2022, 08:53:24 pm »
G'day gents,
Out and about today in the back blocks of Vung Tau, Vietnam and I came across this 67 Fastback.
It definitely has some Shelby features but I could not get a look at the VIN plate......maybe later down the track......
Generally it looks fairly straight and no visible rust issues but the "guard" dogs didn't take too kindly to my presence so I could only get a few average shots...[ I Will head back over with a carton of Saigon Lager to see if I can get more info...and better piccies ]
Not for sale.....Yet..
Cheers
Mike
PS......is this a barn find?

Yeah mate...
Nice find indeed and I almost fell off of my bike when I glimpsed it out of the corner of my eye.
I Didn't think it was the Holy Grail but someone has done some good work to replicate...[ The headlight buckets seem to be cast iron and not fiber glass, and nicely fitting which caught my attention ]
I'm going back in a day or so with a Vietnamese friend to have a proper look over......he will explain I am an enthusiast [ and 67 owner] and the box of beer will "lubricate" the entry permit. I will remove the clutter to get some good shots.
I will dutifully report back to you guys.....Will send VIN tag photo as a matter of interest....
Cheers
Mike

Hey Mick,
Great to hear from you!
67s are nice but I would prefer a 66, it’s just got a better shape, keep looking.
There’s a bloke in Bathurst that has a beautiful 66FB but he hit a roo and totaled the front!
I bet there couldn’t be many in Vietnam.
I’ve been having issues with my car, sensors or something playing up and computer doing silly things.
Started it yesterday after leaving it for about a month and it ran like a dream.
Something has cleared itself over time???
Cheers Phil.

G'day Phil,
Not sure if there many of these classics around here mate.....import laws are very tough for cars older than 5 years of age so, dare I say, this 67 FB might have been in Vietnam from very early on. I know a few American cars were imported during the war.
I have seen 3 1st Gen Mustangs in 7 years, including my recent find.

As for the "better shape" bit, I am partial to the "handsome" 67/68 coupe, but i am extremely biased

Sorry to here about the Roo damage to the 66FB.....Bloody roo's don't seem to have a distinction to what car they choose to jump in front of.....I saw a 67 Eleanor wrapped around a tree in Noosa four or five years ago and it made me weep....
Glad to hear your beast 68 is running happily again Phil.

AussiecV8.......Not yet mate. I haven't started negotiating yet as the Vietnamese can be pretty mistrusting of Westerners, and I have only met a couple of the young lads who take care of the "workshop" and not the owner, which is where my Vietnamese mate will smooth the way.......Time will tell....[ Vietnamese New Year now so I need to wait until things go back to normal ] [ well Vietnamese normal anyway

Another find: There is an old bloke who lives nearby who has got an absolutely immaculate HG Holden, converted to LHD......I reckon it may be an old Diplomatic vehicle from the early 70's. Will try and get some pics..

Take care lads

Hey Mick,
I think My dirt bike days are finally over, I fell off again today.
I went through a mossy road dip and came off again.
Nursing all down my right side from foot to shoulder. I don’t think anything is broken.
Laid there and got my breath for ten minutes and braved it to get on my bike.
I rode for about 30km and got my breath again and then another 30 and got my breath.
Finally made home this time.
Just been relaxing in bed with Panadol and Nurafen.
My wife’s not happy, I’m now feeling a lot better now!
Funny thing is I only just re-registered the bike last week.
Hopefully I’ll feel good enough for Coffee and Donuts at Rockabilly Cafe tomorrow.
I like the 67 and 68 coupe shape also.
Cheers Phil.

Sorry to hear about your accident Phil.
Read you were chasing a new bike but you might need a rethink on that mate....
Happy wife....happy life....
It means more as we get older...
I havent mentioned my 67 find to my wife yet........that will need a delicate approach

Rest well Phil

Hey mick,
She’ll get over it, but I’m thinking about running less tyre pressure.
It’s really rocky where I ride so I run 20psi, need to go back to 16psi.
I’m getting better every hour.
Definitely won’t be going down the new bike way, at 62 it time to go slower, but I can’t help it!
Maybe it’s time to buy a 125cc haha, they are great fun but not for me.
Take care!
Cheers Phil.
