8 inch rear end bearing installation

G'day all,

Hoping for a sanity check please. I've just replaced the rear axle bearings on my 65FB 8 inch.
Just wanting to confirm the bearing should not sit flush with the axle housing flange and go all the way into the axle housing right? As per the pictures.
I'm installing a Wilwood rear disc kit and deleting the drum brakes. I'm assuming the bearing is meant to stick out from the axle housing in order to retain the drum brake backing plate as well as the gaskets and original axle retainers? Thanks in advance for your help.
