Idle Speed with York A/C
« on: November 24, 2021, 08:53:00 pm »
so just wondering what the experience is or the typical setup for folks with a York A/c. (next time it breaks I think a Sanden is going in).

So I think it is typical that the York is a bit of a strain on the engine - although I read about some differences with the a/c charge- and in my case that lowers the idle almost to a stall particularly when cold.

I suspect this is not uncommon but please correct me if I am wrong. What do folks normally do about this, run at a higher idle than normal or do I have a different issue?.

Ahaaa, just read the thread able the idle up solenoid  should've searched better. https://forum.mustang.org.au/index.php/topic,22790.msg227545/topicseen.html#msg227545

So what is the experience and is this the only way to solve it? Manual 4 spd.

I had to use a idle up solenoid with my sanden compressor also. Works a treat.

the stock compressor should never drop the rpm by more than around 125 rpm at idle on a stock engine that is properly tuned, when it kicks on.

A common problem for York compressors is vibration.
If anyone's interested I do have the solution.
It don't laugh its called a vibration bar and fitted stock but most have been removed over the years.
also don't forget the idler pulley.
I can barely tell when the compressor cycles

I sourced an original solenoid and bought a bracket, just need to do some modifying of the bracket to fit around the linkages of my later model holley.

Hi Pete

Do you have any pictures of the anti vibration system ?. I have an original York compressor on my car and it does vibrate at lower revs.

Cheers Steve

intriguing discussion, made me do some searching too.
This thread has some interesting info and a google search shows a bar from the top of the York to the engine further back. Not sure if this was only used on early years as all the reference seems to be 65ish.
Also some comments about an additional fixed pulley which might assist.

Again not sure what years each are pertinent to, hopefully Pete or someone else has more info.

Thanks for posting the pictures. Much appreciated
I will fabricate a bracket for mine (428engine) and see how it goes.
Cheers

Hi guys

Well I made a bracket from round 12mm, bolted it to rear corner of the air con compressor and back to the intake manifold stud. My car has a shaker so the support bracket for the air cleaner has a stud on the intake so it was an easy fix.
Very happy with the result, virtually no vibration in the car at any speed so highly recommend anyone with the old style compressor to fit a bracket. Worth the effort.
Cheers
Steve
