Spring Compressor - Expressions of Interest
« on: November 12, 2021, 04:32:01 pm »
Hi everyone,

A friend and I are looking at making up some of these 'safer' spring compressors for early Mustangs/Falcons etc - https://dazecars.com/dazed/spring.html

My friend is a highly experienced welder and currently works at a metal supplies business so is able to source the materials.

Obviously making them in bulk is best to waste least materials, so looking for expressions of interest for anyone interested in buying one.  Rough estimate of cost - about $80 plus delivery (should be under $100).

Message me if you're interested in participating.

Thanks
Shane

Thanks to a few great members, the prototype based on Dazecar details (slightly modified) has been built.

Mods:
- All-thread goes for entire length, and is plug welded in bottom plate for extra strength (you don't want one of these giving way!)
- Square washers used above top plate - these should be round washer to allow greasing and easier movement (thrust bearing was too hard to find)
- Holes instead of slots in the top plate. These can be opened up to slots if the top suspension mount has different centre dimensions (they are pressed - so likely to differ from car to car)

Production of final units for those who expressed interest in about to start.

I spot 2 issues, the weld on the square tube to the base plate is not the weld quality from a “highly experienced welder” and the all thread is welded to the top of the square tube, if it breaks it will break there.

Thanks for the feedback.

He's definitely an experienced welder.

Welding all-thread at top of the square tube follows the Dazecar plans - including thread penetration.  It is also plug welded on the sides as per the plans as well.

We have the addition of all-thread right to the bottom plate with plug-weld, which I expect would only serve to reduce stress on the two welds mentioned above.

Hi everyone,

The initial order of 3 spring compressors has been made, and are being sent out.

We still have some material left to make a few more.  Price is $80, plus $15.95 delivery in Australia via AusPost.

If you're interested please PM me with your address and I'll confirm postage.

Cheers,
Shane
