351 Cleveland value
« on: September 01, 2021, 06:55:27 pm »
looking at getting a spare 351 cleveland for my XBGT. It has the original untouched motor in it, but has nearly 300,000kms on it. Still runs fine. Thinking of lifting it out and storing it, and putting in a replacement. Found a GJ23 351 (77 xc500 sedan motor) D2AE CA block. story goes it was recoed and went about 50kms and guy hit a tree!! Been sitting for 3years, then next guy bought it but never used it. Been on an engine stand for 4years. Exhaust ports look really clean but not blocked off. Same as the intake. He wants $3500 for it, Turns over ok . does this seem like a fair deal?? I know I could just rebuild my original for that money, and expect to strip this one and prob spend 3 on it, to make sure its reliable. bit out of touch on these motors, Anybody help??

I would agree a deal subject to inspection.
No one is going to take it apart in case you want to buy, but agree a price and have cash in hand. Go there, show him your wad and then pull the heads and oil-pan.
Check the bores, bearings etc and if there's nothing suss, do the deal, take it all home and put in a new set of gaskets and seals and go for your life..

Value of a Cleveland? - no idea, but $3,500 for a rebuilt motor that doesn't need to be done again is good, especially a Cleveland (2v or 4v heads? Open or closed chamber? 4-barrel intake manifold etc?)

Its home in the shed, If it is stuffed when I pull the heads he is happy to give a full refund, Cannot argue with that
