Wheels for my 71

Hi All long time no chat

My 71 being sitting around doing nothing, its time to bring it back. In order to do this I now need an engineer’s certificate, Ill replace the wheels and have them on the certified to, Question is how wide can you go on the rears, without them sticking out, flush with the wheel arches would be OK.

Well your first step would be to talk to your engineer, it's no use buying wheels that he won't approve.

Question is how wide can you go on the rears, without them sticking out, flush with the wheel arches would be OK.

I've done some measuring and with the right backspace/offset I reckon you could go at least 9.5" which would fit a 275 tyre.

Engineers (in Vic at least) work to a formula based on the widest tyre originally specced by the manufacturer for that model.  I know that for my '69 the calculation came out to be within a bee's genitals of 275mm so for a '71-'73 I would expect it to be at least that wide if not more.

Barney shouldn't be too worried about this thread 'cos this time we're talking about the wheels that don't turn and rip your fenders off...   :bolt:
