Diff and trans oils
« on: October 27, 2018, 09:22:30 am »
With the sales on this weekend going to stock up on oil ready for my build. Can't remember the oil I put in the my diff last time. Diff is a 9" with 3.55s and limited slip, running 31 spline axles. I like penrite oils but not sure whether to use 80W-90 or 85W-140.

Also got a C4 that the converter would now be pretty empty so will have to replace it all. C4 with 2500rpm stall and stage 2 shift kit. Which oil should I use here and does anyone know capacity? Semi full synthetic oil. I am a bit confused. Gearbox is behind an approx 400+HP 351W.

Thanks in advance.

If its an LSD you'll need and LSD oil if its a truetrack any oil will do, Penrite is all ok for normal LSD, if you are not flogging it all the time 90 is fine but 140 if you flogging it ,

Non synthetic type f or old style dexron is fine for the trans.

The auto needs ATF 33 type F

and the diff 80-90  the 75-80 is a trans axle oil but this is suitable for Top loader

Ok cool I got it now. Found this
https://www.repco.com.au/en/brands/penrite-oil/penrite-atf-33-type-f-automatic-transmission-fluid-4l/p/A9336055

Would 4l be enough to fill a converter and the trans?

Which one of these for trans do you reckon. Just the 75W-80 trans gear?

yup, none of those are for an automatic trans.

or if you want firmer shifts

Quite a bit more than 4 lt for trans and converter . Once you have 4 lt in run through the gears so the fluid goes right through the box so you can get the correct level on the dip stick . Best way to check the level is in drive not park .  The fluid has to be pumped around and into the converter before the correct level will be shown on the dip stick .
