can't read the numbers

what is the advertised duration?

what is the duration at .050?

what is the lift?

what is the rear gear ratio?

can you post a photo of the right side of the carb?

1. Doesn't show advertised duration - It says " EFFECTIVE" & @.050lift

2.Duration @ .050 IN - 227'   EX - 229

3.Lift - IN-.460 EX-.460

4. Rear gear ration is 3.0

Most restrictive filter you can buy just about. 750 double pumper I'd say its flooding on full throttle

And it's a 750 DP on a very old intake  style manifold .   No vacuum advance either by the looks if it . It's really the wrong set up totally sorry to say . Nice air filter 😂

The way it is driving I would say that filter is an excellent spark arrester and is filling the engine up with molten foam :-)

well, it is a double pumper and that is at least one very big part of the problem as others have now mentioned, and this is why we ask the questions.

imo, i think you are far better off starting with a much smaller carb like a 600 and definitely a vacuum secondary style unless you plan to drag race it a lot and don't care so much how it runs on the street.

it is a bazillion times better to tune a car that has the right size carb than it is to tune one that has a carb that is just wrong in nearly every way.

if you do get another carb, i would not get an edelcrap one. stick with vacuum secondary holley's or quick fuels etc.

also, if you put a smaller carb on it, it is quite possible that it will run just fine even if it isn't 110% perfectly jetted etc. and the money you may save on dynoing it would pay a big chunk of the new carb, PLUS, you can probably get $200.00 ozzie franks for that 750 on gummy tree or ebay etc. ...or shaunp might even give you some credit for it in a trade.  :thumb:

Engine is as is was from the states and its my understanding its been this way for some time, so it has ran sweet in the past you would assume.

nope, that engine never ran good with that big ass double pumper carb, especially bolted to that open plenum intake.

your cam is not "huge" but it is a bit bigger than you should run with the 3.00 gears. if you want faster acceleration, change your rear gears to 3.25 or 3.43 but your rpm will be a little higher on the highway.

you can definitely live with that intake if you get a smaller carb but a different intake like a stealth or shelby style etc would give you a little better streetabillity.

also, your vacuum advance is either not connected or it is connected to the wrong port on the carb.

can you post a photo of the distributor?

No vacuum advance . She is a bit old school this one 🤓 . The 750 DP really needs to go for this combo .  Did you fit new NGK plugs in a 5 heat range and give it a go ? I think you will find the plugs are black .

That carb would be ok on 347 If you decide to build the 302 into a stroker.

I replaced the plugs already, but not sure what type they are. I'll be back home on Friday, so I'll pull one and have a look

Or get a roller cam 351 from Mat at E-autolite  for $650 and build that up instead would be cheaper, and you could go 408 then as well.

give me a call some time and work out a plan to get 500+ hp up front. Matt normally has good F4TE roller cam Truck 351's from the US these are 90's engines, standard bore and a good base for a nice engine ether as a hot 351 , 393 or 408. I'll give you a list of what to buy as you have the $ and sneak up on it.

Matt has this at the moment which wouldn't be a bad start.

From a tune to getting a 500 plus HP engine  :thud: . Sure a 500 HP engine is great but don't forger all the things that have to go with it . Big radiator , tuff rebuild gear box , full exhaust system , a 9 inch diff with good gears etc etc .  At this stage maybe just a  smaller  vac sec carb and and good tune up including getting the dizzy redone . How long is a piece of string 😅.
