WTB: '71-'72 urethane bumper
« on: January 06, 2018, 05:35:29 pm »
Looking at a '71 Mach 1 in the US that has a repro chrome bumper on it.

Just putting the feelers out to see if anyone has one of the unicorn-poo original urethane bumpers lying around they'd be willing to part with if I need one.  Would have to be in pretty good overall shape with only minor splits/cracks/gouges.

Cost of bringing one out from the US is eye-wateringly expensive...
Cheers,
Brian

Thanks Brett, I've seen that one.  Pretty ordinary condition for the amount of money he's asking plus the metal sleeve/barackets are missing so there's more $$$.  Add another US $163 for shipping and it's an expensive proposition.

Nobody makes repros and NOS ones go for US $2K+ if you can find one.  Really looking to find one local in Oz if possible, but have to admit it's a long shot...

Wow good luck finding a good 71 Mach 1 front bar . Is the steel one any different looking once it's painted ?

Haven't bought the car yet, just planning ahead.  Already had someone offer me a NOS one for US $2K but that's 10% of what the car's worth on one item before prep and paint so not going to happen.

Chrome ones look OK but way different, the urethane one was marketed by Ford at the time as the 'spoiler bumper' as a selling point so while it would be nice to have the original item I'm not going to lose too much sleep if it doesn't work out.  FYI the urethane bumper does look more fuller like a spoiler, hugs the lines of the guards way better and has some extra curves and a notched section above the licence plate area that the chrome one doesn't have:

vs.

Oh and that's the same colour scheme as the car I'm interested in.

To make matters worse, I got a lead on a bumper that may not be repairable but is only US $100 so I'd probably take a punt on it.  Gotcha is it's in Philadelphia and the seller only wants to deal in person in cash (i.e. no postage) so no go.  :ouch:

Don't suppose anyone here has a good contact in Philly that would be willing to pick up and post a bumper if needed?
