A few years ago I tried using an Autolite 4100 (rebuilt - paid a tidy sum) with a Edelbrock performer intake on my 289 auto. I tried numerous different gaskets without success. No matter what I tried I always had a vacuum leak. In the end, out of frustration, I put an Edelbrock carb on the car. The vacuum leak problem was solved.I kept researching though and found the Boss 302 carby spacer appeared to be a better option than the one inch aluminium spacer. The boss spacer appears to cover more of the performer intake that the aluminium spacer. Although I have the Boss spacer, I have never fitted it with the Autolite. I will get to it one day, just as an experiment to test my thinking.
Later today we will fit Holley 600 (electric choke BAC will be happy) which is on its way and will jet it down. Hopefully that will isolate the problem.
Glad it is running again, you owe me a slab now.
Would... that... be... Fosters...?
.Glad it is running again, you owe me a slab now. Did you check the power valve cavity for fuel as I suggested? Let us know what happens with the seller on your flashy "restored" and expensive autolite carb?
My car has been running great with the performer manifold and 600 Holley. Although I reckon it is slightly slower off the line. With the 2bbl it would just chirp the tyres if I punched it hard. But it wont do that now.
How this was explained to me is the 2bbl OEM carbies are usually rated at a higher CFM than the 2 primaries of a moderate 4bbl replacement, so until you open up the secondaries you are not moving as much air/fuel.Good to hear things are running well now.
Thank you, so can it be livened up?
Also congrats of shifting the Big block. It sounded like a very lively car.
