In reply to 66FBK, I too had the dreaded squeal of brakes every time I turned right,
not wanting to change the original set up on my 65 FB I went through about 20 different types of globes,
second best was a 31/4 watt motor cycle globe, from a motor cycle spares place in the Peakhurst area
of Sydney, the winner is a high intensity LED, Ebay USA, brilliant, no more squeals of brakes since instal 12 months ago.
Cheers
PS It also helps to switch indicators on a lot earlier than usual.

Shaun,
My Ranger flashed the hazard lights not the stop lights under emergency braking.

Hmm to be honest I have checked mine but I know Dad's was doing the brake light cause we had all sorts of trouble with his caravan, lights

So you're still running the original set up but using LED globes?

You then get blinkers and reverse lights in the bottom and brake lights only in the top.

If you use an 1157 socket you can get switchback blinkers that go amber for the blinker and white for reverse so you can keep the clear lenses.

But then the blinker is too low and most won't see it!!!

FB holden was the first Holden with amber indicators FE/FC had red so that would be about 1960.

Did Holden do this because they were forced to adhere to the rules or as a pre-emptive move, predicting this would be the new norm or use it as a selling point?

I agree but does the new ruling mention anything about height?

Can't we just use orange blinker fluid instead of clear?

The ruling isn't 100% clear...
It's mentioned that the brake light shouldn't flash when brakes are applied, but in the original factory set up like in my case the brake light is inoperative once the blinker is applied. Once blinker is deactivated the brake light lights up again if still applied

Man I thought this may be a problem, but having driven behind my car with amber leds in the reverse lights, I can definately say it is not too low. You can see them no worries, even if you got pretty close to the car. And being LED they are bright as shit anyway, can't miss them.

Either way if something is glowing red on the back of your car, the person behind you will either think you're braking or know your indicating. I can't see how it's unsafe. Having no side indicators is more of a problem I believe than flashing red indicators. Let's hope that's not next on their agenda.

I also think the lack of brightness of the brake/indicators on most vintage cars should be the main concern.

So maybe that's the avenue most of us will need to take, blinkers down in the reverse light housing.

Currently my brake/indicators are bright as, with the LED's from west Coast Classic Cougars

Birdman is correct.  Legally, the rear indicators are too low. The ruling is that the rear indicators must be a minimum of 400mm above the ground.
Not many worry too much about it being too low

I have owned quite a few classic mustangs in the past that had the blinkers down the bottom , modified reverse lights and some people don't see them blinking during the day and if they are too close .  Maybe we should go back to the old side wing arm blinkers   :omg:  :lmao:   If you don't know what I'm talking about your too young so ask ND Neil   :lmao:  :lmao:

So most of us will be in limbo mode!  :thud: :therethere:
Or is the LED brake/blinker combo set up a better option?

When you have the amber flashing at your reverse lights lcoation you must just make sure you are well ahead of the guy trying to follow you!!! :burnout:!  Worst case you stick your arm out of the window to indicate you are turning!

You must have go go gadget arms as I can't reach out the passenger window to let people know I am turning in that direction and still see where I am going.

Just a thought, but if running LED tail lights could you separate the outer 1/3 for the blinkers and keep the inner 2/3 for tail/brake lights. While not an amber blinker at least the brake light would not flash with the blinkers.

I changed the lenses,
Lenses were $50 on ebay (ford approved product with logo)
Some minor changes in the light housing and all done.
