65 Inline 6 Electric Fuel Pump
« on: March 17, 2017, 10:08:58 am »
Hi Guys, Long time reader, First time messenger!

Pretty simple question, I'm sure, but I can't seem to find the simple answer.

I have a 65 Mustang with a stock Inline 6, and due to ongoing hassles with getting fuel to the engine I am looking to install an electric fuel pump and bypass, or delete, the mechanical fuel pump.

Does anyone know what size, or the most suitable, electric fuel pump I need?

Thank you in advance for your assistance.

Don't go down that track ,just buy a new pump . If you want a electric pump just buy a facet pump .

I like Carter pumps for carbi feeds. I agree though might be easier to get a new mech pump.

Thanks for the feedback guys.
You're probably right, it is actually a near new fuel pump that I installed, but like with a lot of aftermarket stuff, maybe it's not quite right.
I might clean up my old one, and reinstall that to see if it helps, before going down the electric path.

Thanks

don't use an old pump for very long . if the old pump does not work and the new pump does not work than an electric pump wont help you cuz you have other problems like a plugged fuel line.

I got the inline 6 and yes, had lots of problems mostly flooding. I changed the fuel pump, fuel filter and lines with no improvement.
I bought a new 1V carb but it didn't help either.
Figured the fuel pressure itself was the reason cause it kept flooding and I had read on some US forums that people with 6 cyl were putting a fuel pressure regulator on.
I but bought a Holley fuel pressure regulator and it fixed the problem!
I can't remember what size I bought (there's 2) but I read the autolite 1V manual to get optimum pressure. Cost about $60 I think.

Not sure why this happens since the fuel pump I installed was a proper 6 cyl pump, anyway fixed now, hope that helps
