Hi,

I've been wanting a mustang for many many years and have finally taken the plunge and joined the V8 club, purchasing my first mustang two weeks ago!

Is that cold air induction that has been cut into the cowl?

Access hole perhaps?

Wire mesh just behind the export brace.

Yep I blew the pic up and can see it now . It may have had rust and water problems and they cut a section out to get into that area .

Very well could be, although looks like it's now setup as a CAI as it's directly under the vents.

Good use for the vents if you have the internal ducts blocked off.

Gees I didn't even notice that...the excitement of having a brand new motor must of led to the over site. I assume it's a CAI, hoping it is

Nice car Rob.. The cutout could be someone's attempt at relieving heat from the engine bay??

You may get heat extraction at idle, however when moving that area is a high pressure zone, so it's used for cold air induction. Same as reverse cowl hoods. For it to be very effective though you really need a shroud around the filter that meets up with the opening in the cowl.

Nice car btw, has a nice stance :thumb:

Access hole perhaps?

I have been thinking of cutting an access hole in the same location, the lower cowl area is a really hard area to clean and paint, prefer to use a metal cover plate instead of wire mesh though.

Yep, you will have the radiator fan pushing air toward the rear of the engine bay so you don't want air pushing that hot air to the front and stagnating around the engine, it's why you often see a cold air box around the carb filter which attaches to the hole in the bonnet.

I'd say it's an access hole, when leaves, etc. fall into that grille they get stuck there and decompose, then when it rains you have moisture soaked compost threatening to rust out that area.
