My New 65 Coupe
« on: December 31, 2016, 10:43:12 pm »
Picked up my 65 Mustang last week, drove it home from Melbourne to Cairn's :burnout: and didn't miss a beat.

I couldn't be happier, like all new projects, I have parts on order and can't wait to make it look as good as the one's I've seen on here :thumb:

Mine was the worst trip in that Impala ,had a exhaust rattle / bang and it was a 4 speed auto with an after market shifter ,but it would not go into 4 th so I drove all the way in 3rd gear  :thud: .

Thanks, love old cars, especially ones that have a great V8 note to them, the first day I flew to Melbourne, picked up the car and drove to Albury, and thank god it was everything old mate told me it was, then had it serviced and checked over, this would determine if I would drive home or put it on a truck and send it home.

Well got the thumbs up and it was a matter of which way I was going to head off.

How was the fuel bill by the time you got to Cairns?

Not as dear as you'd think, around $350-$400 a day, did the drive from Albury to Cairns in 2 days.

It sure is, but I love nothing more then getting out and just going for a drive, I normally do it on a motorbike, so it made it a nice change to do it in a lovely old car, I went the back way avoiding Sydney which made the drive a lot quicker.

What route did you take?
I just did a quick day trip, taking a new 23 ton Isuzu from Ozzie Cranes in Moree to Townsville.
Went to Goondiwindi, then St George, Roma, Injune, Rolleston, Emerald, Capella, Charters Towers and into Townsville. Great run and beats the coast road anyday.

Cheers, it's called Ivy Green, in certain light it looks black, then on a real sunny day the metallic green stands out, will keep the colour, but have been thinking about two white GT stripes down the centre to complement the white interior.

Pretty much the same way, but I turned off at Moree and took the back way to Roma, according to Siri on my iPhone it saved me 45mins :pepper:, and after doing 14-15hrs of driving I thought it was a good idea, until the road went to a goat track on the edges  but from Roma to Cairns via the way you've mentioned I only found about 3-4 ks of shit road a 100ks out of Roma.

Had a good run, and would go that way again :thumb:
