Am looking at redoing the interior of our 66 coupe, has anyone used the Scott Drake replacement seat upholstery covers? Our interior is standard buckets can I use Pony trim to replace them? I will replace the foam as well, any one with comments and pictures please jump in. Have heard some of the Drake repo parts are not up to scratch so I would like to ask here before putting my money down.

Hi Mick,
last year I re-did my front seats, standard bucket in white. I bought the new foam and new upholstery covers from Sydney Mustang parts, they are not Scott Drake but the quality seems really good.
I don't recall the brand at the moment, I can double check for you if you want.

Regarding pony trim/foam I'm not too sure if they fit the standard frame, I believe they fit but you need to double check with someone else.

Mick,
I have TMI upholstery in my 66 coupe. They can do standard, pony or sport upgrades including kits and foam. I have installed Sport R Pony trim including the bucket style in the rear with all new foam. They also do all the colours.
So good!

Think Pony trim front seats need Pony seat foams to match.
Not sure on rear seat.

Hi Fred if you could give me some details/costs on the covers/foam you got from Sydney Mustangs that would be great. I knew replacing the foam would be a must do in a 53 year old car any chance of a couple of pictures please mate?

I think Covers set was $380 (front and rear), plus $95 for foam. I went to Sydney motor Trimmers in Alexandria to do the job because seat frame needed some welding. For front seats re-upholstery and fixing the frame the bill was $800.
Here a picture https://flic.kr/p/23E5zkB
I think they did a good job.

I’m at work so I cannot check, I can do when back in Sydney end of next week. Maybe tomorrow I will ask my girlfriend to check also the box, rear seat cover is still the new one because current seat is in good condition.
I remember there was another name on the box, but which name..... :ouch:

Drake sells TMI upholstery which is fine unless you have a concourse car.

The best seat foam by far is made by American Cushion Industries. Everything else is complete crap and you couldn't pay me to use it.

TMI sews straighter lines than Distinctive and they also use the correct binding size, the main issue is the colors being off, even the black, which is not black, it is very dark gray instead, but that's because it is chinese material.

When I have needed "NOS" seat covers, I simply got the original material and took it to TMI and had them sew it up, and whala, concours factory original seat covers.  :thumb:

How close is the dark red?

How close is the dark red?

distinctive upholstery had the closest color to the orig 66 dark red which had a slight pearlescent look but that was years ago when they used us made vinyl, no idea how it looks now but they are likely using chinese vinyl now as well.

the tmi dark red is not all that close but there are no other options that i am aware of and the door panels need to be the same color as the seat covers so they should be purchased from the same company.

the acc carpet is complete crap but there is no other option i know of there either now because distinctive quit making carpet.

the bottom line is that it will look decent but isn't going to have that "wow" factor due to the crap they make it out of now.
