The end for a rare Mustang
« on: August 10, 2016, 12:13:14 am »
Ever wonder what happened to these few Australian delivered RHD early Mustangs? Look like this one has met it's maker. A sad end to a rare car with probably an interesting history. you never know, someone might be able to straighten it out. It's on Ebay for $5K.

Been kicking around for a while.  May have sold and now someone's trying to flip it, don't recall if the original ad from a while back passed in or if it was bought.

As a pretty vanilla car, 289/c4 hardtop, other than the (sometimes noted as a bit dodgy) 60's RHD conversion, nothing really special and not really considered "collectible".  Have seen a few come up for sale over the years and they generate little in the way of buyer interest or any real $ bump over a similar modern RHD conversion.

Unfortunately with that much damage, everything from the C pillars forward is all suspect, its just not worth restoring.  And its not clear what is really reusable... but the front seat looks OK!

Too bad, a little piece of history gone...

Whilst it may be a plain Jane car, it's OZ delivered & converted 66 which makes it's rare as there was only around 200 of them.
Have now converted the other half into doing some of the Concours washin, cleaning & polishing stuff!!!!!!!!

Yep, but another case where "rare" does not mean high value... curiosity value, sure.  A pink Mustang with blue interior would be rare too, but.... :thud:

And even if a pristine body most here would junk the engine, trans, suspension, steering, interior, etc and "improve" it... and then the rarity is really moot!  :smile01:

+1.
I'm not a panel beater, but it looks to me that the cost of straightening out that body and roof would far exceed any commercial value that it had.
Maybe someone might be keen enough to save it for it's historical value, but most people would be saying move on, get over it.
I also agree that making a couch might be the best use of it.

I'd cut off the back & turn it into a couch.
