Manifold to ports- ling them up question
« on: April 19, 2016, 06:14:35 pm »
Hi Guys, my intake manifold (cobra) doesn't line up exactly with the ports. I had a theory that an extra felpro gasket (ie putting 2 on) would make it sit a bit higher and line up better?

Is this a stupid idea? Would the water ports leak? Is it safe is torqued ok

Thanks

How does it not line up have the heads have a lot faced of them? if so you need to machine the manifold as well.

I wouldn't use two gaskets - they're not designed to be run that way and the chances of a leak are greatly increased IMHO.

I bought a (dare I say it) Procomp gasket and it is made of really thick material compared to a felpro.  This might give you the extra bit you need.

Do not run 2 gaskets.  As Luke pointed out - use a thicker gasket. They are available and he pointed one brand out to you. How thick does it need to be;
For example; a Felpro 1262 is 60 thou thick while the Felpro 1262R is 90 thou - 50% thicker. This is an example only as I do not know what your port size is.

Thinking outside the box. I assume your intake is low, this could indicate it has been machined in the past to match to decked heads.
Depending on the heads you are running, you could deck them. It could give you a benefit of higher compression if you need it..
Just something to ponder, not a recommendation.
