-- Roughly What $$$ would you be up for if only bearings needed replacing?
--Can pinion bearings be replaced without removing complete centre.
--Does anyone reccomend a diff specialist on the Sunshine Coast

I can add this . I would only use gears from US GEAR or the Italian version of MOTIVE gears and Timken bearings . Some other gears have a tendency to whine even when set up properly.

Also, make sure your U joints are good . They wont wine but they can make a grinding noise.

Also, definitely check your trans and pinion angle . They are pretty easy to set up but you have to jack the car up high enough to get under it.

You can post the measurements after you get them then I or someone else that does this can suggest the best option for your particular app.

Yeah, you sign up for AAA and depending on what you pay, you get some free services . The premium membership is only $100.00 per year and you get four free service calls which could be four 100 mile tows or one 200 mile tow or four free battery jumps or they will bring you 3 gallons of gas for free four times.

They do not require a drivers license to buy the card, you simply give them any name you want to use . You can also get multiple cards using multiple names if you go to multiple agents and get 20 free tows a year etc.

They changed the law in Calif so it is no longer legal for tow companies to tow a car that has expired tags even though the wheels are not touching the ground unless you have a moving permit which now costs $25.00 instead of $10.00, however, I have "heard" that if you are friendly to the driver and hand him $20.00 as soon as he gets out of his truck, he may forget to look at the tags.

I have also "heard' that you can print a valid moving permit from a computer from the Arizona department of motor vehicles that is also valid in Calif and use that . It might cost $10.00 these days but that's cheap, especially when compared to the 10 minutes it takes vs the several hours it would take to get one from the Calif DMV.

With a moving permit, you can legally drive a vehicle with expired tags on the day the permit is dated for.
.

Diff now has now dramatically increased grinding noise on deceleration and slow acceleration to the point where you can "Play a tune with it"

Known as 'Johnny Cash in the diff'. lol.

I hope there are no politicians reading this forum...otherwise there may be a  new "tax" coming our way.

Hi All

Wondering if you can shed some light on increase in diff noise after change out of rear springs. Had a rear axle replaced recently due to it being slightly bent which led to a grinding noise in rear brake drum noticeable when coming to a stop.
Since then diff has had slight noise which can be altered with acceleration/ deceleration which I am led to believe is pinion bearing noise.
I have recently had my rear springs changed (which had 40mm aluminium spacer blocks to lower rear) for some new reverse eye springs. Since this change out the diff noise has increased dramatically on acceleration/deceleration.
Could this noise have been masked by spacer blocks previously or has the installation of new springs put extra load on drive shaft / diff?
The car sits approx 25mm higher than when it  was blocked

Well the mystery has been solved !!! Diff centre removed and pinion bearings cactus(Gears OK) -- Diff rebuilt by "Topcog" Caloundra good job but pricey??($700) Also new Uni joints fitted -- Can only put down noise being more noticeable due to removal of spacer blocks anyway $1100 dollars later it is as quiet as a mouse!!!

$700 probably not too bad, a rebuild with new gears and truetrack is 1600+

if you drove it in and drove it out and that price included new gears, it sounds like a deal to me.
