Now for something different Boss 429
« on: December 30, 2015, 12:23:09 am »
My 1972 Gran Torino with a Boss 429 stroked to 520 the block has 4 bolt mains and heads are original Boss 429 that have had roller rockers added the compression ratio is 12.5 to 1 with a 5 speed Tremec and a Mcleod twin plate clutch that is good for up to 700lbs of torque this is fed through a custom aluminium tail shaft  and Detroit Locker with strange torque bars also has 4 wheel disc brakes which are slotted and cross drilled and a power steering oil cooler

The car was originally built in the states in Michigan but was in ordinary condition when I bought it the guy who was building the car lost interest when his bill kept growing at a enormous rate , so I bought the car and took on the car project to finish it the way it should have been and since used local Aussie talent to make it the car it should have been it is a work in progress have since fitted a new Kaase high capacity high strength oil pump as standard oil pumps were a Boss 429 a chillies heel new Milidon high capacity sump with an oil cooler and new Ford 390 GT air filter with modified vents for extra airflow. Powder coated the rocker covers and refitted with high tensile chrome bolts the MSD distributor had to be recalibrated and fixed by Scorcher so it could run properly, (had major issues when I bought the car could not set the timing)and extra brake booster tank was added for the brakes like the XY GT HO to give extra support in braking vacuum also reconditioned the radiator to high capacity and added a overflow tank and new Gas Shocks all round and a Hurst shifter. Just had a new interior fitted seats re-cushioned and re-upholstered ,new carpets with Dynamat underneath to cut back some of the internal heat  and new arm rests new window winders new weather strips now waiting for a new duco to give it that extra wow factor and finish it off.. This would make Clint Eastwood's eyes water in Gran Torino.. Hope to be at Kiwani with the car and see everyone.. Petro

There is a thick plate to stop the coil getting hot but with the coil you want to shorten the lead as they do in the states for better spark.. Keep in mind mostly all coils
were put on the top of the manifold..
