If you are going to put alloy heads on ,no you don't have too . If you are going to use your old heads then get hardened valve seats fitted and reco .  If you are going to fit any performance parts buy top brand not el cheapo .

You'll spend $1000-1200 to reco the iron heads for ULP, not much point no gain in power. Alloys also get the heat out quicker and have more modern chamber designs, less likely to ping on ULP. Unless you are looking for originality, alloy is the go and roller cam.

Thank you, this sounds fine to me. Please name a couple top brands for these components. I'm always about top quality I have the money now so let's do this  :thumb: I'll see what I can get my hands on in those brands at a good price.

Heads look at, AFR 185 (Airflow research), RHS 180 (Racing head service), Dart Pro 1 or Trickflow twisted wedge, Trickflows will need special pistons if the cam you buy has more then 550 thou lift, other then that any good forged pistons with suitable valve reliefs are fine. Look at Scorpion or comp cam gold rockers, and cams it depends on how wild, Lunati voodoo rollers, comp cams extreme energy, Howards, even Trickflow have a couple of good rollers. Summit racing in the US is your best bet, but heads will incur GST as will be over $1k, locally try Rocket, Performance Wholesale, VPW etc

We can help you with that once you have the engine stripped down and you make up your mind what you want to do . As I said it has a bit of gear already so that's a saving . The carby might be ok ,as the intake manifold .  your not building a killer so it will be ok . Remember you only wanted an extra 50 HP overstock and that will be impossible 150HP maybe
