Another set back. Car went into the electricians to fix an electrical gremlin, now fixed. However, seems like the booster push rod is pushing against the brake switch causing the brake lights to stay on. Jeremy will look at it tomorrow and hopefully the push rod can be adjusted.

OK - hydro boost just rebuilt my booster.
Mine was broken around the bakeite (if you have the piece that's missing, they can repair it)

BUT

As Barry said, the '69 and '70 boosters are different, and it's VERY odd for the bakelite to break UNLESS a '69 booster has been installed into a '70 car (or a '70 car with a '69 pedal).
The correct booster for a '69 has a shaft that looks like this -concentrate on the shaft that attaches to the pedal:

Whereas a '70 booster has a shaft that looks like this:

you don't want to bolt it all together and break the new one on the first brake application, do you...

Thanks Jiffy, mine is definitely a 70 based on your pics. I havn't had it repaired as yet as I got the new one fitted but will get it repaired some time and have it as a spare.

I will have a look and see if there is anything on it. I didn't actually order it so not sure what the part number was.

Sorry Denton, there are no markings I can see on the new one and I have checked my paperwork and I don't have the actual order with a part number.

Can you explain the Bakelite? I have a '70 with a 69 pedal and booster and have booster issues, where it is like a switch, on or off. It has a 6945 bendix booster and the 69 5" pedal fitted.

You may be able to save me some trouble

If you need to order parts contact Harmon, they carry rebuild kits (for Midlands I am sure, I did mine...) and note...

"We also stock all Bendix component parts for any booster...................All parts are available individually !!"

I was told that you can't get a replacement for the bakelite part but from the pics on that site it appears that they have what appears to be the bakelite bits

The Bakelite is under the rubber boot that covers the pedal rod. When you apply brakes, if the Bakelite is broken then vacuum escapes and the booster ceases working - doesn't sound like your problem. You may be able to pull the rubber boot back with the booster installed in the car and see if the Bakelite is cracked and - if uncracked - this will tell you to look somewhere else for the problem.
