Squeaking from left rear wheel
« on: October 19, 2013, 10:04:58 pm »
I recently have noticed a squeaking sound coming from my left rear wheel. It is more noticeable when I turn right rather then when I am going straight but I can still hear it. I have a convertible so it is easy to hear it with the top down. Could this be a wheel bearing?

Maybe not. I would check the rear shoes first and adjust them and see how that goes. The wheel bearing will usually growl not squeal. I'd say you might have a high spot on the drum and the shoe is touching that with the way it has worn

This might sound silly to some but check the tension on your wheel nuts, Mark. Have had it happen in the past.

That's not a silly comment Ash. I've seen it happen. Do you have mags or hubcaps?

I've also had this before. It was the rear left brakes. From memory, I roughened up the shoes with some coarse paper & readjusted them. My warped dums wouldn't have helped. New ones are cheap so I eventually replaced them.
