New member - 1967 Coupe Resto
« on: August 13, 2013, 01:40:44 pm »
Hi everyone, haved lurked on this profile on and off over the years, but have finally joined now that I have something to actually contribute rather than just read out of interest!

Bought my 67 Coupe way back in 1996 and pretty much drove it every day until it went off the road needing work done in 2006. My mechanic at the time wanted to do the job so I left it with him and due to difficulties in getting the job done it basically sat in storage at his shop, which I guess allowed me to keep putting money aside into the resto fund if nothing else.

I have now teamed up with local people I know to do the job, and very excited after seeing a whole heap of resto threads on here so thought I would contribute and share the story and pics as my project kicks along........

Firstly here are  couple of shots taking in better days prob around 2001

G'day sea welcome to the forums I'm very much a noob here too but there's a wealth of info on here.

Your '67 looks sharp, what have you got planned for it?

I'm early days into a 67 coupe resto too, being done out of melbourne. Exciting times ahead.

Good luck and keep us posted with some updates.

I bought the car off a guy who did the original job all himself, as the vehicle got older the paint started to dry out and crack / spider out, I later was told that this is common if someone has not removed all the old style paint which causes it to dry out from underneath and give the effect, not sure how true that is but regardless it was a problem, rust issues also with the front end cross member from an old crappy radiator that was in it, and poor seals in the left window led to water pooling and rusting out the lower left door panel.....

At the time it first went off the road, I had purchased a left door skin, a panel for the rust probs at the rear windshield / boot area, along with an RRS disc  front brake /strut+ power steering kits to install. I have since been told about problems with the power steering kits but oh well thats what I have and will work along and see how it progresses. Anyway here are some pics taken before it took off on the tow truck

During the course of stripping down we made a list of initial shopping parts..... did not want to go down the road of patching a bit here and there, so through SydneyMustangParts I immediately was able to pick up...

Complete floor pan
Complete cowl assembly
New trunk lid
Another left door skin
Front & rear windshield seals
Complete front end radiator support with crossmember
Battery tray etc

Thanks Chuck, its prob not looking as sharp as those first photos now! Im still considering all my options with the car, but in short new car on old body, with some custom touches inside to make it unique, nothing set in stone, will see what the budget allows. Will be cruising through here constantly now no doubt for some ideas and any other outrageous recommondations!

I'm sure your stang will turn out great! :pepper: :burnout:

Out of curiosity, what were the floor pans like back in 2001?

I really have no idea what state they were in, my feet certainly didnt push through the floor like they would have in the state they are in now.......the frames etc have all been checked out and other than mentioned structurally there is no other rust i need to take car of, it looked as scary as I expected it to be, at least it didnt look worse (not that things arent bad as they are)

Sean, I would be removing the engine and box, check the towers and frame rails and also give the engine bay a good spruce up.

Thanks guys..... I know there is a heap of work in this one, but common sense is far outweighed by the sentimental value, I've owned this one for about 18 years, was prob too young to really even know what to look for when buying it, was just so excited to be buying one! so will make sure everything gets done right this time around
