Hi Dark Horse, It is hard to tell from the photos, but the paint does look very thin on the bootlid. Might be best to respray it. Almost looks like somebody has given the bootlid a very light coat of paint which has not adhered very well to the original paint underneath.

Found a pic of your car. 67 Lime Gold - oh yeah! Very nice -

I see you live at Laura in the mid north. Do you come down to Adelaide very often? On your next trip could you call in to see us and i would be happy to offer an opinion. Could even buff a small section to see how it would come up as long as the temperature is under 30 degrees.

From the photo of the car i wonder if you could get away with polishing the rest of the car and just have the bootlid resprayed. Have you ever done any spray painting or do you know any local body repair people?

As long as the paint on the rest of the car is reasonable, it should respond well to a good machine polish.

Rocket.

Cheers Rocket,

Yeah I have bad feeling that the paint might be too thin all over to be honest. Photos have the fortunate (or unfortunate) habit of making things look better than what they actually are - especially when it comes to paint & panel!  Sadly spray painting is not something I've ever done & although I know a handful of guys that were very good at it, they all got out of the trade years ago - bummer.

Bringing it to Adelaide poses no problems with me - hell, it gives me an excuse to go somewhere in it!  :thumb:  I might have to do that after I get the fuel consumption under control though as I am currently getting a whopping 5km to the litre  :omg:  Whereabouts in Adelaide would I find you?

Hi 66 Stang, Glad you are enjoying the Thread.

I am more surprised than anybody that there is so much interest in polishing cars, but it really is a great way to make your car stand out in a crowd. Well worth the effort.

It has been a bit too hot to machine polish cars lately. My fingers are itching to get back into it again.

Hi Dark Horse, We look forward to you calling in - after you get the excessive fuel consumption sorted. At 5km to the litre you would use about 46 litres to get here. At about $1.55 per litre that would cost $71.30 each way. Ouch!!

As Dale wrote - We are at 87 Research Rd. Look for "Image Robes".

Hi Andy68coupe, There are many fans of the Meguiars range. Think i have some of their Car Wash that you mention at work. Must give it a try.

Thanks for your thoughts. I see that was your first post on the Forum and hope it is the first of many. All contributions welcome. We love photos here - how about putting up some photos of your car. :thumb:

Cheers Rocket,

do not write anything off if your not after a show care finish.
My paint is very very thing and I get comments on it all the time about how good the paint is until they have a close look. Its because it is always shinny and detailed.

A local owner has a very original paint car that showed its age. He never polished it as he thought it was a waste. I talked him into loving it a little more then he already did and while still not being the best paint it looks the best it can and IMHO heaps better then it did prior.

Holy Crap - Not much time left. I see your car show is on the 24th Feb.

Maybe if you get time you could just do a one step polish on the Mustang with Menzerna 2500?

Hope everything settles down at work and personally for you.

car not too bad was thinking maybe to do the top and leave sides as they still look good.

I would do the tops of the guards to and leave the edge as the brake between old and new?

Hey Rocket,

Just thought I'd jump in & say THANKS yet again for sharing your experience.

As you may recall, I've been using Autoglym HD Wax which is great but always hazes up for one or two weeks after application. Seems to happen when the temp cools down at night.

I recently copped some stains/watermarks through the whole car & had no choice but to machine polish it yet again (quick once over with finest Scholl polish & black pad). I then re-applied one thin coat of Jetseal 109 by machine & wiped off next day.
Reluctant to use the HD Wax again, I took your advice & got some DP Max Wax. It applies & buffs off much easier than the AG HD Wax & best of all, it doesn't go hazy!  :thumb:

Keep those tips coming!

Evan.

Hi Evan, Wow!! Your car looks absolutely gorgeous with that incredible shine. :thumb:

DP MaxWax is such a good wax and real value for money at about $40 from waxit.com.au The first time i used it just could not believe that a cheaper wax could compete and actually look better than some waxes costing well over $100. It certainly ranked in the top5 of the 20 waxes i tested back in 2009.

For those who have not seen the Wax Test Thread, here is a Link -

http://www.detailparadise.com.au/showthread.php?4046-Testing-10-Waxes-on-one-car-Which-is-the-best

If you ever want to experiment with some other waxes, my top 5 in no particular order are Wolfgang Fuzion Estate Wax, Pinnacle Souveran, DP MaxWax, Collinite915, P21S 100% Carnauba Wax. But note - they are all much more expensive than the DP MaxWax.

Hope to start another polishing job on this car through the week -

It is Jeremys Wifes 69 Acapulco Blue Vert which was painted a few years ago now. Jeremy has been getting it ready for Registration and we want it looking as good as possible. Look for photos later in the week - as long as it does not get too hot.

Hi Michael, I am looking forward to polishing this car. Really like the Acapulco Blue and i think with the Menzerna treatment it will look fantastic. We all felt a little guilty about  taking parts off the car again for the Nationals last year so it will be good to see the car finally Registered and Monique driving it.

Drop in whenever you like. Always good to chat with you.

The information regarding generous Discounts on car care products offered to Forum Members by Waxit and Chemical guys is becoming lost within the Thread.

To make it easier to locate the information i have Edited my first post on page 1 of this Thread, so just go to page 1 and see the second post down.

Bob (Blue 302) dropped his Concours kit over of Saturday, I had a bit of a play on an MGA Roadster, that was painted in 08 but has never been on the road, The Menzerna seems to work pretty well but I'm thinking I'll get some similar type pads that came with Bob's kit to use on the my rotary machines, I'm not sure I like the random orbit unit, it's pretty light, & a little slow to cut, not keen on the vibration either, I kind of feltl like I really have tp push it, rather then the machine doing the work, I think I'll use the Rupes rotary for all but the finest polish, I'll try and use the Concours unit for that, but Ill try and compare the 2 units at this stage as well. I'll have to get on to one of the vendors for some pads I think.

Hi Shaun,
The pads I have are the Lake Country pads . I got some extra from Chemical Guys at $15.95 less the 10 per cent discount - $14.40.
Your Rupes polisher definitely seemed to work faster and you looked pretty confident with it. As a starter machine the Concours did suit me and I'm pretty happy with the finished result. I think with your higher level of skill your idea of just finishing with my machine would probably get the best result.
Cheers,
Bob
