That car looks absolutely gorgeous.

Good to see that you used the masking tape - especially around the indicators on the bonnet.

Top Job.

Thanks Rocket,
I did tape all the seams and trim - certainly saved time on clean-up.
I'll take some photos of the marks on the mudguard - I'll try the Menzerna IP1000 first but I think I'll need the wet n dry .( It was 2000 grade right ?)
Cheers,
Bob

Thanks Evan - it's a 1968 only colour - Presidential Blue - and the car's original colour.
I think it will be hard work to get much better but there is still a bit of improvement to come. Told you the machine was good.
Cheers,Bob

Thanks Vic . It did turn out better than I'd hoped. The next couple of stages plus  the Jetseal 109 should finish it off perfectly.
Without this thread and Rocket's encouragement I probably never would have attempted machine polishing but now I'm hooked. Now I've replaced just about all the car-care products that I thought were the best. The knowledge on this Forum is fantastic.
Cheers,
Bob

Hey Bob
I thought your car looked awesome before, so I can't wait to see it in the flesh now........BUT   I do think you need more practice, so maybe you could bring your gear to my place and see if you can polish out my scratch.....might take you long that 3-4 hours though...lol

Hi Lee,
Not much closer with your car yet ? I read your post - no decision so far.
I think I'll pass on trying to polish your scratches out - probably needs something a bit stronger than 2000 Wet 'n Dry.
Thanks Justang - love this forum. And I agree scourer on the bonnet is a bit extreme.
Still a bit of work to do on BLU yet but I'm pretty happy.
Cheers,
Bob

Thanks Glenn, 65Muzzy,

Glenn - didn't you start this thread? Without you I wouldn't have even thought about using a Machine to polish. Thanks.

Hey guys, I was looking at the couple of online detailing supplies places that are offering us a discount. My dad just brought a black 2010 FG XR6 and I thought I might throw together a few things as a present for him. I thought why not make the most of their offer. Except I'm a bit over whelmed with the amount of products and to which is worthwhile. As much as my dad looks after his cars, he is still old school and rarely tries anything new that comes along. I saw waxit do a few Christmas packs but are they worthwhile or should I just buy a few odd things and throw together?
The paint on his car is quite good. But black being black its going to take more work. What do you think would help him maybe keep it more maintenance free maybe or help protect it and etc?

Hi Ash, I believe you could put together an excellent kit consisting of the following -

Car Wash - Citrus Wash and Gloss - ChemGuys - $10.95
http://www.chemguys.com.au/Premium_Car_Wash_Shampoo_p/cws_301_16.htm

Chenille Wash Mitt - ChemGuys - $8.95
http://www.chemguys.com.au/CAR_WASH_MITT_MICROFIBER_p/mic_493.htm

El Gordo Microfibre Cloths - ChemGuys - 6Pack $17.95
http://www.chemguys.com.au/Microfiber_towel_p/mic_333_6.htm

DP MaxWax - Waxit - $39.95
http://www.waxit.com.au/index.php?page=shop.product_details&flypage=flypage.tpl&product_id=380&category_id=10&manufacturer_id=9&option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=1

Aerospace303 Protectant - Waxit - $24.95  ( Great for Dash, Console, Plastics, Tyres)
http://www.waxit.com.au/index.php?page=shop.product_details&flypage=flypage.tpl&product_id=8&category_id=43&manufacturer_id=2&option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=1

Autoglym Fast Glass, Excellent Window Cleaner and can also be used to clean accidently applied Polish off body panels, tyres etc. Normally available from Autobarn for about $12-$15

That lot would work out to around $110 once you allow for Forum Members Discount, then add Shipping.

It is easy to get carried away and buy lots of different Detailing products. I have done it myself. The products listed above are the end result of trying lots of different products, then selecting those which i personally have found to work well for me. :thumb:

Hi Ash/Rocket,
Of those products I have tried the Citrus Wash and Gloss (excellent product and very economical - 1 capful to a bucket) , Chenille Wash Mitt (again excellent and good value)
and the El Gordo Microfibre Cloths are the best I've ever used .
Chemical Guys sent me a free bottle of Citrus Wash and the cap broke but a Microfibre towel they wrapped it in absorbed the spillage. I threw it in the washing machine with some other towels and the Laundry flooded with foam - that stuff is sooo concentrated.
Ash - you couldn't go wrong with products that Rocket recommends.
Cheers,
Bob

Wow Rocket, you went to a lot of trouble there. I really appreciate that. That's the very kind of info I was after. The same to you too, Bob. I thought instead of taking a stab at a buying some, I'd ask here. Looks like that was the best move I could have made.

Thanks guys, saves a whole lot of guess work and I trust your opinions. Appreciate it!  :thumb:

Good one Ash, They are all great products.

The FG Falcons are superb cars. Had a G6 for a few months this year and found it very smooth, quiet and comfortable. Cannot understand why they are not selling in much bigger volume.

The XR6 has a better interior than the G6. I think your dad is going to like it. :thumb:
