this is a fantastic thread, im a little concerned about having a go myself on the supersnake. so does anyone know a good detailer?.maybe you rocket?

Hi shelbyright Glad you are enjoying the Thread.

Using these RO Polishers is very safe. They do not generate a lot of heat like rotary polishes. If you do it yourself it will be a lot cheaper. It takes about 15 hours to do a whole car in 3 stages.
However, if you really want someone to do it for you it needs to be a specialist polisher. Not a lot of detailers know how to do this type of polishing. Where are you located? If in Adelaide i may be able to assist, but would need the car for a week. We get very busy running our main business, so when polishing a car i just grab a couple of hours a day in between customers.
Here is a list of Detailers in each state who are familiar with  this work -

Great thread, got my bottle of jetseal109 last week and keen to give it a go rather then the 3 coats of wax like normal.

I recommend Dodo Juice born slippy, its a concentrate you mix up to use as lube when claying. With the other off the shelf products I have used found myself needing to reapply before finished working the area. But with born slippy you can work away and it doesn't dissipate.

Purple is the go for polishing up those chrome bumpers on our mustangs.

Tend to get most my stuff from http://www.carcareproducts.com.au/ as they have a big range, prices are fair and being on the opposite side of the country their delivery is quick.

6R07K, Would be good if you post your thoughts on Jetseal 109 after you do the job. Also some photos of your car would be appreciated. :thumb:

Checked out the DoDo Clay Lube Concentrate you mentioned. Sounds good. I just used Quick Detailer with a bit of detergent added after i ran out of clay lube last week, but i could feel that it was not as good as the clay lube. Link -

Will try and locate some Purple Polish for the chrome too. Bumper Bars could certainly use it.

Rocket, can you recommend a hand polish/fine cutter with slight abrasive qualities that I can use before the other two products? I'm forever noticing fine scratches, especially after washing. I learnt a very valuable lesson a few months back......DON'T DRY WITH A CHAMOIS!!  :ouch: The level of shine in my paint is so high that everything shows up. Fortunately, the HD wax fills alot of the fine scratches & brings back the richness.

Evan.
Waffle Weave Microfibre is the only towel worth drying with, they do a really good job and don't scratch your paint if you use them correctly.

Someone asked for some tips, these are a few I have picked up that I didn't see covered elsewhere.

Excess polish, after a few panels as the pad starts to get more polish on it, I like to use it on the windscreen.  I always have the brush to help clean my pads after a few panels, but this also helps get rid of any excess, and your windscreen will be the cleanest you've ever seen!!!

Plexus - excellent cleaner/polish for your glass and plastics around your vehicle.  I use it on all my headlights, taillights and windows, I've even found it's safe on window tint film.

Job done, but the photos really don't show it very well. Perth weather is just to sunny and quality was lost when reducing them.

Hard to say if the finish with Jetseal109 is better as it was pretty good to start for 20 year old paint. Think this will be an endurance test and see how it looks 6 months down the track. Certainly laying down two coats of jetseal109 is easier then my usual 3 of wax after a polish.

PS: Use a waffle weave of a different brand also for drying, good old chamois hasn't seen any use since.

the one from CG is the go. it absorbs forever. unless youre hercules, youll never "ring it out". I wrap it around my clothes line pole and twist it till the water is out and then continue drying

Hey Gretschem, That Waffle Weave Towel sounds like it would be very heavy when wet! Would it be possible to just cut it in half - or would it fray?

I just use 2 normal Microfibre cloths to dry the car. The Towel would probably be a whole lot quicker.

I have been checking out the show and shine section on the Detailing Forums looking for good before and after pics of swirl marks. Came across this Eleanor that just looks stunning!

Hi Sally, A Lot of work has gone into that car. Here are a couple of photos from the Link -

For anybody wanting to get involved with machine polishing, the following Link from autogeek shows an excellent example of what you are trying to achieve, which is eliminating swirl marks and glossing up your paint. The car being polished is a 1936 Chevy Coupe. Check it out -
http://www.autogeekonline.net/forum/show-n-shine/57235-dodo-juice-1936-chevy-coupe-extreme-makeover.html

A bit uncanny really. This morning i went through the different waxes in my kit and settled on Dodo Supernatural to wax the Grande. Did the job this morning. Happy with the look. Then tonight i look at Autogeek and see them using Dodo products.

6R07K, I am a bit surprised. Are you saying that you are not impressed with the Jetseal? Your car looks to have an extreme shine in the photos. Please elaborate.... All opinions regarding products are appreciated.
Waxes tend to give a car a warm look whereas a sealant will be more of a plastic looking shine.

I always give a car 3 coats of jetseal allowing 24 hours between coats. I am always amazed by the shine that is left on the car. A lot of people will also wax their car after the sealant has cured ( 24hours ). The Grande has had 3 coats of sealant a few months back and i just waxed it yesterday to lift the shine up again. Might even give it a coat of Wolfgang Fuzion Wax as well next week. With a few cars lined up to polish over the next few months it will be a while before i get to polish the rest of the Grande.

Guess my point is - if you prefer the look of a wax maybe put a coat of supernatural over the Jetseal. The sealant will still be protecting the paint. :thumb:

G'day Rocket

No complaints with the Jetseal look, certainly like the easy application and like the protection benefits. Below is the wax look from 2010 under the same lighting, so you can see its hard to spot the difference. Can't recall which wax, possibly a meguires one, wouldn't have been Supernatural though.

How long on average does Jetseal last as I don't recall seeing it mentioned on the bottle?

I believe your paint would benefit from the use of a Sealant such as ChemGuys Jetseal 109 or Zaino. This will put a hard surface on your paint and therefore protect it from those fine scratches. If you apply three coats of Sealant (after washing the car), allowing 24 hours between coats, then finish off with an application of your HD Wax the shine will be incredible and your paint protected.
You don't have to tell me twice Rocket. I tracked down a bottle of Jetseal 109 on Friday night & got stuck into it. Due to time resrtraints, I cheated slightly (fantastic weather forecast for today/Sunday). Applied first coat on Friday night, wiped off Saturday morning (yes, wiped off. This is the easiest stuff I've ever used!!!). Reapplied 2nd coat & wiped off 4 hours later. Paint looked very rich & shiny, much like it does after a wax. I then applied one coat of Autoglym HD wax. Looks a million bucks!

WOW!!!! Your car looks incredible! :thumb:

I tried leaving Jetseal to cure overnight once on a suggestion by Rex at Chemical guys. It was very hot weather and it took ages to wipe it off. The heat had made it go completely dry, but the shine was great. Now i only leave it for an hour or so...... But looking at your car i might leave it for 4 hours or so in future - but not in real hot weather.

In answer to 6R07K, there are varying opinions as to the durability ( or longevity ) of jetseal109. In my experience it lasts 4-6 months, but i do tend to give it a top up after about 3 months normally - just one more coat. But a sealant should not be put over the top of a wax. Therefore if you have put wax on, the car will require a claying to remove both wax and sealant before reapplying sealant. But if you are busy - just put another coat of wax on after 3 months or so.

Here are some reviews i found on Jetseal -

Thanks Rocket! I applied the first coat at night & wiped off at 7am while it was still cool. I guess that helped. The second coat came off at lunchtime on a warmish day but was only on for 4 hours. Very easy to remove.

Evan, Your car looks absolutely sensational.

I think you have just proven the point that Rex from Chemguys was making. The longer you can leave it on - the better the shine.

The price of Jetseal in the USA is $38.95 compared to the local price of $45.95. Link -

Well worth it in my opinion.
