Been told there are none unless if I work like a dog I *might* get 1 or 2%.

Such a crock, you may also get less.

Would like to change industries but dont know what else to do at 50

You could just try changing company, depends on how in demand the position is.

I found the best way to get a pay rise is to switch companies, have seen plenty of people doing this.

One guy who I replaced in the last company I worked for switched twice and increased his pay both times. He got a 30% increase from the company I was working for.

He was still keeping in touch with that original company to see if there was any work going so it says a lot.  You may get the rise but you have to be happy with the work.

The thing is after he left the company was advertising his position for a much higher pay packet - funny that, if he asked for a rise it wouldn't be anywhere near what they were advertising.  Companies take for granted the staff they have.

s

I might get less than 1 or 2%  .. ? No sh*t !  0% !!!
Have been told the top 5% might get that - I that aint me !

Jumping companies ?

Yeah I know everyone does and did this. What really fries my ham is that people left in the tech boom , got big payrises, then those companies went bust, so they either came back or our company bought them. So they are now on heaps more than me.

I used to think just working hard and loyalty meant something. But it means jack. I know I sound bitter and hard done by, but now I dont really care. Just bugs me that I have to be on the this salary until I retire !

Then again, people are leaving as they realise that area of our company is a dead end. And they are either not replaced or they are replaced in a low-cost centre. I can hang out for a package I guess. I just dont think its the way to run a company. Bad moral, unhappy staff ...

Long story I guess, but there you go ... slightly off the thread topic

Thanks for listening.

Cheers,
Frank.

Not a good position to be in, you should try looking around.

Best of luck.

Yeah guys, I should but there are some good points of course to my job. there is some time flexibility, so I can start at 6:30 and finish by 3:00 ( out the door by 3:01.  :thumb: ) but i am over IT.

I looked at starting my own business in something totally different, but its risky and costly.

Yeah , I guess I am sort of in a bad position, and I shouldnt be given my company is so huge and massively profitable. Plus for most of the last 10 years or so I have been meeting, usually exceeding my set objectives.

I would like to move, but the family wants to stay put.

Plus some of then technology I was supporting is not widely used here, so not a lot of jobs. My team mainly support US based customers. But I have changed to a new product line which does have lots of work here and skills are in demand. we'll see ..

cheers and thanks for the support.

Cheers,
Frank.

Many companies offer that these days. In my case there are times when I don't have a say.  If we have to meet a deadline we have to stay back but I get to take that time off in lieu.

I just got my LSV insurance renewal and it has gone from $251/year to $301/year. That is a 20% increase. !!!!!

LSV was sold to AAMI.
I got quotes from LSV, Shannons, and Ryno. late last year and Ryno was the best in all departments.
Give them a try ... http://www.rynoinsurance.com.au/ryno/ but take my tip and don't get your quote online ... ring them up and talk to someone and do a bit of bargaining. They will come to the party.

LSV are in fact owned by the giant WESFARMERS Group and support the MOCA Vic in quite a big way. If you tell them you are a member you will get a great price.

Suncorp owns AAMI & Shannons. I would be surprised of they now have LSV. LSV is Lumley Special Vehicles & is tied in with Lumley & General & Wesfarmers. I think you may have it confused with the Shannons/AAMI relationship.

Spooky the fact is $300 bucks still represents good value for money.

After having to make a claim with LSV last year and the ease of the process - given that l used someone to repair the damage and they were not even registered with LSV it went off without a hitch.

So long as my premium has no more than a 20% increase they will still get my business.

As with all insurance companies their only as good as they treat you when you have a claim to make !!

Yeah, 20% is OK .. but not if they do it every year.

With 4 cars on my policy, its about $1400, so 20% yearly is gonna quickly make it expensive.

I guess I should not worry until it actually happens ... hopefully it will only be this year.

Cheers,
Frank.

Car insurance companies get their money back from the person who caused the accident or their insurance company who puts up their premiums to compensate.  Well anyways thats the theory.  Home insurance etc as well as car insurance they play with your premiums on stock markets, property etc.  That plus not paying what you and I think they should on a claim is what makes them rich.  Ocassionly they go bust. If they happen to owe you money at the time ,,, you know the rest.
What can I say that hasn't been said

Occasionally they go bust.

....and occasionally they boast about record profits while increasing your premium at the same time.

Just like the banks ...

I think the moral of the story here is to do what they do by buying shares in the them or the banks.

QBE looks like a reasonable buy at the moment. Not likely to go bust as they are selling off their higher-risk underwritings.

Frank.

Hi all, does anyone have any good/bad news about NRMA (QLD)?  Got a good quote through them for a '67.  Shannon's are about another $200 per year, Suncorp/Alliance/AAMI won't insure it.

Cheers,

Steve.

EDIT:  I should add that is with agreed value of my choice and without any restrictions on kms.

Hi again, I sent off enquiries to LSV and NRMA Vintage, can anyone give me an indication which would be better for quality of service in an event?

I don't want to jump for the standard NRMA cover on the basis of it being cheaper if Shannon's provide the best service e.t.c.

Thanks!

Just got updated quotes with LSV and Shannons, Shannons are about $50 more.  Any recommendations in either direction?

FWIW I have claimed with LSV (wife's Jag) and the claim process was very smooth, great repairer and good follow up from LSV. When I was with Shannons I never claimed so can't compare on that aspect.
