Quick question
« on: November 02, 2011, 06:51:56 pm »
Hey guys I just picked up my new rear valance for my 65 coupe

I am not going with the gt exhaust holes just the plain one with back up holes but what are the two small holes here for ???? ( either side of the rego panel)

Do they get covered up are they for the over riders?

Can you guys let me know

Can't wait to get it finished and enjoy it ! They need to have overhaulin here in Aus!!

That's where it attaches to support brackets that come down off the boot floor.

The fixings are button headed bolts with no provision for a spanner or screwdriver, that paint out in car colour. (No over riders fitted)

Are you serious?? I welded mine up thinking they were for over-riders!

Without over riders, the valance holes would look to be surplus if the brackets behind were missing. They're a light metal pressing and fix in two places - at the rear of the chassis rail and to the boot floor.

Are you sure that brackets are used when over-riders aren't installed? My car never had over-riders or mounting brackets. The valance had been replaced by the previous owner & I assumed that it was made for over-riders. I prefer the cleaner look so I figured I'd weld up the holes. I expect it would look terrible if I installed painted bolts into the old holes.

Rear bumper guards were standard in '65 unless the GT option was selected, couldn't do both the exhaust cutout and the guards.   So the standrd rear valence shown with no GT cutouts would use the guards... thus the holes.

Would be possible that a factory delete on the guards was ordered, but ... "never"???  Owned it since new?

Even '65 Shelby's had the rear guards... (but not the GT350R's)

OK, I guess 'never' is a strong word. My car had none installed when I bought it 6 years ago. If it ever did have them, it must've been a loooooong time ago. The car was an A-Code poverty pack so it wouldn't surprise me if it was ordered this way. It's interesting to learn that they were standard. If it makes any difference, mine was an early build '65 (September '64).

That schematic looks to be of a 67/68, due to the later padded bumper guards.

In general principle the bumper guards on a 67/68 mount the same way as a 65/66, but different in detail.
