Trickflow Heads
« on: July 28, 2011, 12:35:30 pm »
I recall a discussion previously about which heads to use as an upgrade for the OEM heads and trickflow 170's were mentioned as a good replacement.  I am looking at a rebuild of my 289W to somewhere around 300hp the cam is still to be determined.  There are a long list of complete heads available (with varying prices) and the descriptions all seem to be very similar can anyone advise which part number is most suitable or what to look out for??

Thanks Steve

Maybe have a look at the AFR 165's. I did a bit of research lately and these were suggested as a great head for what you would be after. Maybe even 185's if you were thinking of extra horsepower down the track.

Hi 66pony,

Either way you go, just be mindful of what Cc combustion chamber as you will end up going 'back wards' if the engine drops compression due to the incorrect Cc to match your TDC (deck height > 0 or +/-) and piston (Flat top, Dish or Lumpy Top).

The cross sectional inlet track size on the 165's to 170's are more than adeqaute on a 289-302 (promoting good air-speed) for those size engines - 6,000-6,5000 RPM.

Cheers,
